The Revanth Reddy government in Telangana has taken an important decision. To boost dairy development, the state government has decided to launch the Indira Dairy Programme. Under this scheme, two buffaloes will be provided with subsidy support.

The Telangana government has been introducing multiple initiatives to economically empower women. Earlier, the government allocated RTC buses, petrol bunks, and employment opportunities through Mahila Shakti canteens for women SHGs. Now, another major scheme has been launched with a focus on dairy development and income enhancement.
The state is currently facing a severe milk shortage. In this context, the Telangana State Dairy Development Federation urged the government to promote the dairy sector. Responding to this, the government prioritized the Indira Dairy Programme.

Under the programme, every 10 villages will form one unit. SHG women members will receive two dairy buffaloes or cows per member, with a unit cost of ₹2 lakh. The government will provide 70% subsidy, while the remaining 30% will be financed as a bank loan.
The scheme has been launched as a pilot project in the Madhira constituency, represented by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. The government is preparing an action plan to expand the project to other regions of the state.
The government has estimated a total expenditure of ₹781.82 crore for the project. So far, ₹286 crore has already been released, and recently, administrative approval has been granted for the release of an additional ₹124.92 crore.
