Britannia Industries has commissioned its first aseptic PET packaging line for dairy beverages, adopting advanced technology from Sidel to strengthen its position in the ready-to-drink segment.

The new installation is located at Britannia’s greenfield dairy facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, and supports the company’s growing Winkin’ Cow beverage portfolio, first introduced in 2018.
The collaboration with Sidel encompassed end-to-end execution — from planning and technical configuration to equipment installation, commissioning and operational ramp-up. Central to the project is Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis system, an integrated solution that combines preform sterilisation, blow moulding, filling and capping within a single line.
Operating at a capacity of 24,000 bottles per hour, the system utilises a dry preform decontamination process in which hydrogen peroxide is applied to preforms before heating. The approach is designed to ensure high levels of sterility while reducing water and chemical consumption.
Abhishek Sinha, Chief Sales Transformation Officer at Britannia, said the partnership enabled the company to confidently enter the aseptic PET segment. “Sidel offered a comprehensive range of services, including new packaging concept design, packaging validation, label recommendations, custom filling tests and shelf-life studies,” he said. “They provided everything we needed to bring our new product to market with maximum confidence.”

The line continuously monitors critical production parameters to maintain sterility and product quality across different beverage variants. The automation features are also expected to reduce operator training requirements and minimise downtime.
Harbinder Kathuria, Vice-President, Sales South Asia at Sidel, stated that the project provided Britannia with end-to-end technical support — from bottle and label design to product-packaging validation — enabling the company to expand its dairy beverage portfolio with greater packaging flexibility.
The adoption of aseptic PET technology marks a significant step in Britannia’s dairy strategy, aligning product safety, operational efficiency and sustainability objectives as demand for shelf-stable dairy drinks continues to rise in the Indian market.
