Minister Vakiti Srihari visits Anand plant; action plan underway to make Telangana a dairy leader

Hyderabad : Telangana’s Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports, Vakiti Srihari, has said the state will draw inspiration from Gujarat’s cooperative dairy framework to accelerate growth in its dairy sector.
Leading a ministerial delegation to Anand, Srihari visited the renowned Amul milk processing plant to study the policies and systems that have driven Gujarat’s dairy success.
The delegation included Gutha Amith Reddy, Chairman of the State Dairy Development Cooperative; Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah; Bhuvanagiri MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy; and G Madhusudhan Reddy, Chairman of Mother Dairy. The team was welcomed by Meenesh C Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), along with senior officials.
Studying the Cooperative Success Story
During the visit, NDDB officials briefed the Telangana delegation on modern technologies used in milk collection, storage, processing and marketing under the cooperative model.
They explained how the structured dairy network in Gujarat has strengthened rural livelihoods, ensured stable income for farmers, and built a strong value chain from village-level collection centres to national markets.
Telangana Plans Action Blueprint
Speaking after the visit, Srihari said Telangana is preparing a comprehensive action plan to make the state a leader in milk production.
“The success of the Amul model will serve as an inspiration for Telangana. We are committed to developing the dairy industry, increasing farmers’ incomes and generating employment for rural youth,” he said.
He also highlighted the dairy sector’s role in promoting women’s economic empowerment, noting that cooperative participation has significantly improved financial inclusion for rural women in Gujarat.
Focus on Technology and Farmer Returns
The minister said Telangana would adopt Gujarat’s best practices by:
- Strengthening the cooperative structure
- Expanding milk procurement networks
- Introducing modern processing technologies
- Ensuring better price realisation for farmers
Srihari added that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is giving special attention to the dairy sector as part of broader rural development goals.
