Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government is stepping up its dairy sector push with a dual strategy—higher procurement prices for farmers and the introduction of premium A2 milk priced at ₹100 per litre.
Premium Shift: A2 Milk at ₹100/Litre
The state is focusing on A2 milk, known for its perceived health benefits and better digestibility compared to conventional milk. By pricing it at ₹100 per litre, the government aims to:
- Tap into premium urban markets
- Increase value realization per litre
- Promote indigenous cattle breeds
This move signals a clear shift from volume-based to value-driven dairy growth.
Higher Procurement Prices for Farmers
To support producers, the government has already raised milk procurement prices:
- Cow milk: ₹51 per litre
- Buffalo milk: ₹61 per litre
This makes Himachal Pradesh one of the highest-paying states for milk procurement in India.
