Organic Intercropping Model in Bahraich Delivers Triple Returns Without Chemicals

Bahraich: In a striking example of low-cost, high-return agriculture, a progressive farmer from Bahraich has demonstrated how organic intercropping can significantly boost farm income—earning up to three times more profit from a single field without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Organic Intercropping Model in Bahraich Delivers Triple Returns Without Chemicals

Three Crops, One Field

The farmer has adopted an intercropping system, cultivating three crops in a single field in a sequential cycle:

  • Maize – harvested first for early income
  • Urad (black gram) – provides the second return
  • Arhar (pigeon pea) – ensures final profit

This approach allows continuous income generation from the same land throughout the year.

Low Investment, High Profit

One of the key advantages of this model is its minimal input cost:

  • Total cost per bigha: ₹2,000–₹3,000
  • Profit increase: 3 to 5 times higher returns

Despite using the same irrigation and land resources, farmers are able to maximize productivity and profitability.

Fully Organic Approach

The system relies entirely on natural inputs:

  • Cow dung for organic manure
  • Cow urine for plant protection solutions

Farmers prepare liquid formulations such as Jeevamrit and organic sprays, which are applied every 21 days to:

  • Improve soil fertility
  • Protect crops from diseases
  • Enhance yield

Natural Pest and Animal Control

An added advantage of these organic formulations is their strong natural odour, which helps:

  • Repel pests
  • Deter stray animals

This reduces crop losses without the need for chemical interventions.

A Model for Sustainable Farming

Agricultural experts note that such models:

  • Reduce dependency on costly inputs
  • Improve soil health and sustainability
  • Increase income stability for small farmers

The success of this farmer in Bahraich is now inspiring others in the region to adopt organic intercropping practices, proving that traditional methods—when applied scientifically—can be both profitable and sustainable.
