Chandigarh | April 2, 2026 : In a major push to strengthen the dairy sector, the Government of Punjab has announced an increase in milk procurement prices for farmers associated with Milkfed Punjab (Verka). The revised rates came into effect from April 1, 2026.
Announcement
- Procurement prices increased by ₹10 to ₹15 per kg of fat
- Decision taken under the leadership of Bhagwant Singh Mann
- Aimed at ensuring better remuneration for dairy farmers

- Around 2.5 lakh dairy farmers directly associated with Milkfed
- Nearly 30 lakh milk producers across Punjab expected to benefit indirectly
Economic Impact
The state government estimates that this move will:
- Inject nearly ₹100 crore per month into the rural economy
- Improve the economic viability of dairy farming
- Strengthen the cooperative dairy structure in Punjab
Ripple Effect Expected
Officials indicated that:
- Private dairy players and other procurement agencies may also increase their prices
- This could trigger a sector-wide upward revision, benefiting more farmers
