Ferozepur, April 5, 2026: In a major push to strengthen Punjab’s dairy sector, a ₹372 crore expansion project has been proposed for the Verka dairy plant in Ferozepur, aimed at increasing farmers’ income and generating large-scale employment.
The proposal was presented by Milkfed Punjab Director and Milk Union Ferozepur Chairman Gurbhej Singh Tibbi during a high-level meeting with National Dairy Development Board Chairman Manish Shah in Amritsar.
At the core of the proposal is a comprehensive expansion plan for the Verka Ferozepur Dairy. The project includes:
- A new milk powder plant with a capacity of 60 metric tonnes, estimated at ₹270 crore
- A modern fermented dairy products plant (curd and lassi) with a capacity of 50 metric tonnes, costing ₹102 crore
According to Tibbi, the project will significantly increase milk demand in the region, ensuring better price realisation for dairy farmers and strengthening their economic stability.

The expansion is also expected to create 2,000 to 3,000 employment opportunities, both direct and indirect, providing a major boost to local youth employment. Additionally, it is likely to encourage value-added dairy production, accelerate industrial growth, and improve supporting infrastructure in the region.
Experts believe the initiative could help curb rural migration by creating jobs closer to home, while also opening up opportunities for women through allied dairy activities.
Responding positively, NDDB Chairman Manish Shah assured full support for taking the proposal forward, signaling strong institutional backing for the project.
Describing it as a milestone initiative, Tibbi expressed confidence that the expansion will play a pivotal role in transforming the dairy economy of Ferozepur and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the region.
