Purabi Dairy Crosses ₹400 Crore Turnover, Expands Network Across Assam

Guwahati, April 11: In a quiet but significant milestone for Northeast India’s dairy sector, Purabi Dairy—operated by North East Dairy and Foods Limited has surpassed ₹400 crore turnover in FY 2025–26, reflecting the steady expansion of its farmer network and supply chain.

Purabi Dairy Crosses ₹400 Crore Turnover, Expands Network Across Assam

From 2,000 Litres to 1.6 Lakh Litres Daily

What began as a modest operation handling just 2,000 litres per day has evolved into a large-scale system:

  • Average daily sales: 1.6 lakh litres
  • Peak demand: करीब 2 lakh litres, especially during festivals like Rongali Bihu

This growth highlights the strength of a well-coordinated dairy network operating behind the scenes.

58,000 Farmers Power the System

At the heart of this expansion is a vast rural network:

  • 58,000 dairy farmers connected across Assam
  • Decentralised procurement across villages and districts
  • Strong collection, storage, and distribution systems

The model ensures that milk moves efficiently despite logistical challenges posed by terrain and infrastructure.

Rising Demand for Value-Added Products

While liquid milk remains the backbone, consumer preferences are shifting:

  • Curd emerging as a high-demand product
  • Expansion into sweets already underway
  • Upcoming launches: ice cream sticks and choco bars

This signals a strategic shift toward value-added dairy, where margins and growth potential are higher.

Assam’s Bigger Dairy Vision

Under the Assam Dairy Development Plan, the state is aiming to scale production significantly:

  • Target: 10 lakh litres per day
  • Current procurement: around 2.5 lakh litres daily

Key interventions include:

  • Artificial insemination programmes
  • Farmer support and training initiatives
  • Productivity enhancement measures

A System Built on Precision

Dairy is a race against time—milk must be collected, processed, and delivered within hours. In a state like Assam, where geography adds complexity, maintaining this daily precision is critical.

The ₹400 crore milestone is not just about revenue—it reflects:

  • A resilient supply chain
  • Strong farmer participation
  • Evolving consumer demand
  • Consistent operational discipline

The Bigger Picture

Purabi Dairy’s rise shows how cooperative-driven, decentralized models can scale even in challenging environments.

Bottom line:
Behind every litre of milk in Assam is a network of thousands working in sync—and that quiet coordination is now turning into serious economic momentum.
