Milk prices in Karnataka are likely to increase soon, as the state government weighs farmer demands against rising input costs, according to Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh.
Farmers Push for ₹10/Litre Hike
Addressing the Legislative Council, Venkatesh confirmed that dairy farmers are seeking a price increase of around ₹10 per litre, citing steadily rising costs of:
- Cattle feed
- Fodder
- Labour
- Veterinary care
“Production costs are rising daily, so the demand is reasonable,” he stated, adding that the final decision will be taken after consultations with the Chief Minister.
Balancing Farmers and Consumers
The government faces a familiar challenge—ensuring fair remuneration for farmers while keeping milk affordable for consumers.
“We will implement a price increase keeping both sides in mind,” the minister said, indicating a calibrated hike rather than a full ₹10 jump.
Signals from Dairy Industry
Earlier, Bheema Naik, chairman of Karnataka Milk Federation, had also hinted at an impending revision.
KMF markets milk and dairy products under the well-known Nandini label, which dominates the state’s dairy sector.
