The Andhra Pradesh government is intensifying efforts to improve livestock productivity and dairy farmer incomes through the implementation of an Animal-Centric Breeding Approach, according to SPSR Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla.

Addressing livestock farmers during an awareness programme held under the Palle Veekshana initiative at Kulluru village in Kaluvoya mandal, the Collector highlighted the government’s focus on scientific breeding and livestock management practices aimed at strengthening the dairy and animal husbandry sectors.
The event was attended by Venkatagiri MLA Kurugondla Ramakrishna, officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, veterinary experts, and local dairy farmers.
Scientific Breeding to Improve Productivity
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shukla said the Animal-Centric Breeding Approach is designed to enhance reproductive efficiency, improve animal health, and increase milk productivity through the adoption of scientific livestock management techniques.
“The programme aims to provide breeding and veterinary services using scientific methods, helping farmers improve the genetic potential and productivity of their livestock. Higher productivity will ultimately contribute to increased income and better livelihood opportunities for dairy farmers,” he said.
The initiative forms part of the state’s broader strategy to modernize livestock farming and promote sustainable growth in the dairy sector.
Focus on Dairy Farmer Prosperity
Officials noted that improved breeding management plays a critical role in increasing milk yields, reducing reproductive disorders, and improving overall herd performance. By strengthening extension services and providing access to advanced breeding technologies, the government aims to make dairy farming more profitable for rural households.
The Collector encouraged farmers to actively participate in the programme and utilize the services being offered by the Animal Husbandry Department to maximize the productivity of their cattle.
Farmer Outreach and Livestock Development Activities
As part of the awareness campaign, the Collector and the MLA distributed animal feed to dairy farmers and interacted with livestock owners regarding animal nutrition, breeding management, and productivity enhancement practices.
A calf beauty competition was also organized to encourage better calf rearing and animal care practices among farmers. Winners of the contest were recognized and awarded prizes during the programme.
Strengthening the Dairy Sector
The Animal-Centric Breeding Approach is expected to support Andhra Pradesh’s efforts to improve dairy productivity, strengthen rural livelihoods, and enhance the contribution of animal husbandry to the state’s agricultural economy.
