Pune, Maharashtra: BJP MLC and Chairman of the Mumbai District Central Cooperative Bank (MDCCB), Pravin Darekar, has lauded the role of cooperative dairies in strengthening rural livelihoods and Maharashtra’s economy following his visit to Sonai Dudh Dairy & Milk Products Ltd. in Indapur, Pune district.
Sharing details of his visit on X, formerly Twitter, Darekar described Sonai Dairy as one of Asia’s largest dairy processing facilities and highlighted its contribution to the state’s dairy sector since its inception in 2002.
Established under the leadership of Dashrath (Dada) Mane, Sonai Dairy has emerged as a prominent player in Maharashtra’s dairy industry, with a reported milk processing capacity exceeding 5 million litres per day.
According to Darekar, the dairy has played a significant role in strengthening the state’s dairy value chain while creating sustainable market opportunities for milk producers across the region.
During the visit, Dashrath (Dada) Mane, Pravin Mane, and Kiran Mane provided an overview of the facility’s operations, showcasing its advanced processing technologies, quality assurance systems, and various business initiatives undertaken by the organization.
The delegation also reviewed the dairy’s infrastructure and discussed the role of cooperative institutions in supporting farmers through efficient milk procurement, value addition, and market access.
“Such cooperative-led dairy projects are vital for empowering farmers, boosting rural livelihoods, and reinforcing the cooperative movement,” Darekar said, adding that they serve as an important pillar of Maharashtra’s economic development.
Industry observers note that Maharashtra’s dairy sector continues to benefit from strong cooperative participation, with institutions playing a key role in linking milk producers to organized markets and enhancing value addition through modern processing facilities.
The visit also underscored the growing importance of large-scale dairy infrastructure in meeting rising consumer demand for milk and dairy products while ensuring remunerative returns for farmers.
Founded in 2002, Sonai Dudh Dairy & Milk Products Ltd. has expanded its footprint across multiple dairy categories and is recognized for its investments in processing capacity, technology adoption, and quality control mechanisms.
