Sitamarhi, Bihar: Sunil Kumar, a resident of Parchhaiyan village in Sonbarsa block of Bihar’s Sitamarhi district, has become an inspiring example of rural entrepreneurship through dairy farming.
A few years ago, Sunil worked for a private company in Delhi, where he earned only ₹12,000–13,000 per month despite long working hours and hard labor. Frustrated with the low salary and the fast-paced city life, he decided to quit his job and return to his native village to build a business of his own.
Turning to Dairy Farming
Four years ago, Sunil entered the dairy farming sector with determination and hard work. Instead of depending on others for employment, he chose self-employment by establishing his own dairy farm. Although he faced several challenges in the beginning, he remained committed to his goal.

Today, his perseverance and effective farm management have transformed his dairy enterprise into a successful business, making him a role model for many young people who aspire to become self-reliant in rural areas.
40 Cattle on the Farm
At present, Sunil’s dairy farm has around 40 cattle, including cows and buffaloes of different age groups. Out of these, 18 cows are currently in milk, producing 100–120 litres of milk every day.
He pays special attention to the nutrition, health, and overall management of his animals, ensuring high-quality milk production. As a result, there is strong demand for his fresh milk in the local market and nearby villages, providing him with a steady daily income.
Annual Income of ₹8–10 Lakh
During favorable seasons, when 25–30 cows are lactating simultaneously, the farm’s milk production increases significantly, reaching 150–170 litres per day.
Through his successful dairy business, Sunil now earns ₹8–10 lakh annually. His decision to leave a low-paying job in Delhi and start dairy farming in his village has not only improved his financial condition but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to build sustainable livelihoods in their own hometowns.
Sunil Kumar’s journey demonstrates that with determination, proper livestock management, and entrepreneurial vision, dairy farming can become a profitable and sustainable business, even in rural India.
