Jalandhar, August 6: The Food Safety Department in Jalandhar has seized 1,000 kg of paneer and 68 kg of cream from a dairy facility on Kala Sanghian Road after the owner allegedly failed to produce satisfactory proof that the paneer was manufactured at the declared premises.
The action was taken during a coordinated enforcement drive targeting dairy establishments in Jamsher Dairy Complex and Model House, where food safety officials collected nine samples of milk and milk products for laboratory analysis.
The inspection was conducted under the supervision of the Assistant Food Commissioner, with a team comprising Food Safety Officers Mukul Gill, Robin Kumar and Ravi Nandan.
Paneer Manufacturing Claims Under Scrutiny
The team first inspected Chawla Dairy in Model House, a major paneer supplier in the city, and sought records relating to the manufacture and sale of milk products.
According to officials, the dairy owner informed the team that the products were prepared at a facility located on Kala Sanghian Road. However, during the inspection of that premises, authorities reportedly found that only ghee and curd were being produced there, with no evidence of paneer manufacturing.
Officials said the dairy owner failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the actual production site of the paneer.
Samples Collected, Stock Seized
Following the inspection, the Food Safety Department collected samples of:
- 2 paneer samples
- 1 cream sample
- 1 ghee sample
- 1 curd sample
from the Kala Sanghian Road facility.
Suspecting possible adulteration and irregularities in the stored products, officials seized the entire stock comprising:
- 1,000 kg of paneer
- 68 kg of cream
pending laboratory examination.
The enforcement team also collected:
- 3 milk samples
- 1 ghee sample
from Radhe Dairy, Lovely Dairy and Satpal Dairy located at the Jamsher Dairy Complex.
Samples Sent for Laboratory Testing
In total, nine milk and dairy product samples collected during the operation have been sent to the State Food Laboratory for detailed analysis.

Officials said they have also requested the State Food Analyst to expedite testing of samples drawn from the seized paneer and cream stocks.
The final course of action will depend on the laboratory findings. If the samples fail to meet the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, appropriate legal action will be initiated against those responsible. The seizure forms part of the ongoing efforts by Punjab’s Food Safety Department to strengthen surveillance against adulterated and substandard dairy products.
