RCPL launches accessible-premium dairy ice cream range starting at ₹10; western India rollout begins, pan-India expansion planned.

Mumbai: Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited, has entered India’s growing ice cream market with the launch of Bombay Creamery, a new dairy-focused ice cream brand positioned in the accessible-premium segment.

The company said the new range is made using authentic dairy ingredients and is built around its stated proposition of “Global Quality at Affordable Price.”

The launch marks Reliance’s formal entry into the ice cream category and adds another segment to the company’s rapidly expanding consumer-products portfolio.

Range starts at ₹10

Bombay Creamery’s initial portfolio includes ice creams in multiple formats, including:

  • Cones
  • Cups
  • Tubs
  • Bars
  • Sticks

Prices start at ₹10, with the company positioning the range to make premium-style dairy ice cream accessible to a wider consumer base.

The brand is being launched initially across western India, with RCPL planning a subsequent pan-India rollout.

‘Dairy shouldn’t need shortcuts’

T Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Products Limited, said the brand has been developed around the idea of using genuine dairy ingredients while maintaining affordability.

“We built Bombay Creamery around one simple idea that dairy shouldn’t need shortcuts,” Krishnakumar said.

He added that Reliance was not merely entering the ice cream category but was making a long-term commitment to the segment.

According to the company, Bombay Creamery uses real dairy cream and aims to deliver a consistent taste and quality experience across its product range.

Reliance expands its FMCG play

The ice cream launch is part of RCPL’s broader strategy to build a large consumer-products business by entering established FMCG categories.

The company has previously expanded into beverages and other consumer categories, including through the Campa brand.

Reliance is leveraging its large retail presence, distribution infrastructure and consumer reach to compete in categories traditionally dominated by established FMCG and dairy companies.

Ice cream becomes a new battleground

The entry of Reliance adds another major player to India’s competitive ice cream market.

The segment already includes established dairy cooperatives, national food companies and regional brands. Reliance’s combination of large-scale distribution, retail presence and aggressive pricing could intensify competition, particularly in the mass and affordable-premium segments.

The ₹10 entry price also gives Bombay Creamery a potential route into high-volume impulse consumption, where products such as sticks, small cups and cones compete heavily on price, availability and brand recall.

For dairy companies, the development is significant because ice cream represents an important value-added dairy category with substantially greater scope for product differentiation and brand-led margins than liquid milk.

Entry follows years of exploration

RCPL has reportedly been exploring the ice cream segment since 2023, when it was reported to be in discussions with a Gujarat-based manufacturer for an ice cream venture that was tentatively associated with the Independence brand.

The launch of Bombay Creamery now formalises Reliance’s entry into the category.

Not to be confused with Vantara Creamery

The Bombay Creamery launch is separate from Vantara Creamery, an ice cream venture launched in Mumbai in May 2026 by Vantara, the wildlife conservation initiative associated with Reliance Foundation and led by Anant Ambani.

Vantara Creamery operates as a distinct, luxury-positioned venture and is not part of RCPL’s FMCG portfolio.

What Reliance’s entry means for the dairy industry

Reliance’s entry could accelerate competition across India’s value-added dairy market.

The company’s strategy combines three important advantages:

Affordable pricing + extensive distribution + retail scale

If Bombay Creamery successfully expands beyond western India, established ice cream and dairy companies could face increased pressure to compete on price, product innovation, distribution reach and dairy quality.

The larger significance, however, extends beyond ice cream. Reliance’s continued expansion into FMCG categories signals an increasingly competitive environment in which traditional dairy companies can no longer rely solely on milk procurement and processing scale.

As India’s consumers increasingly shift towards value-added dairy products, categories such as ice cream, paneer, cheese, yogurt and other dairy-based foods are likely to become increasingly important battlegrounds for both traditional dairy companies and large FMCG players.
