TG SAFE inspected seven sweet and dairy establishments in Hyderabad and nearby areas on October 15, reporting hygiene violations, missing compliance records and suspected adulteration. Two additional units were ordered to close for operating without FSSAI licences.
Telangana — The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has seized or discarded 2,480 kg of food products valued at approximately ₹3.78 lakh during an enforcement drive targeting sweet and dairy establishments in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.

The inspections, conducted on October 15, involved seven enforcement teams comprising food safety officers and police personnel. Officials inspected seven khoa, sweet manufacturing and retail establishments and collected eight samples over suspected adulteration concerns.
Following the inspections, the agency suspended the food safety licences of Bhagya Laxmi Sweets and Burfi, Balaji Magic Mithai and Yashoda Dairy, directing the establishments to immediately stop operations in the interest of public health.
Seven Establishments Inspected
The enforcement teams inspected the following establishments:
- Bhagya Laxmi Sweets and Burfi, Jeedimetla
- Balaji Magic Mithai, Jeedimetla
- Yashoda Dairy, Jeedimetla
- Madhura Dairy Products, Cheeryal village, Keesara mandal
- Desi Dairy Sweets, Jalpally
- Jagannath Milk Dairy, Peerzadiguda
- Shankar Yadav Khoa and Paneer Merchant, Bela, Shalibanda
Officials reported multiple hygiene and food-handling deficiencies across the inspected premises, including inadequate drainage, stagnant water, damaged flooring, food waste on walls, and signs of housefly and rodent infestation.
Other reported violations included missing pest-control documentation, incomplete food-handler health records and workers handling food without appropriate protective clothing, such as hairnets and gloves.
Three Establishments Face Licence Suspension
Bhagya Laxmi Sweets and Burfi
Inspectors reported flies on sweets, cobwebs in the kitchen, unhygienic food preparation conditions and gutka stains near food-handling areas.
Balaji Magic Mithai
The establishment was found to have an unhygienic manufacturing area, slippery flooring and improper storage practices. Officials also reported missing water-analysis documentation and audit records.
Yashoda Dairy
Inspectors reported inadequate insect-proof screens, housefly infestation, an unhygienic drain and a rusted cold room. Workers were allegedly found without appropriate protective clothing, while milk procurement and pest-control records were missing.
TG SAFE suspended the FSSAI licences of all three establishments and directed them to cease business operations.
Two Units Ordered to Close Over Licensing Issues
Officials also ordered Madhura Dairy Products and Desi Dairy Sweets to close after finding that they were operating without FSSAI licences and under unhygienic conditions.
Show-cause notices were issued to Madhura Dairy Products, Desi Dairy Sweets and Jagannath Milk Dairy over the violations identified during the inspections.
According to TG SAFE, further action, including the possible imposition of penalties, will follow. The eight collected samples were taken amid suspected adulteration concerns; the results of laboratory analysis were not provided in the supplied report.
Food Safety Risks in the Sweet and Dairy Supply Chain
Khoa, paneer and traditional sweets are widely used by sweet manufacturers, restaurants and catering businesses. Their safe production and storage depend on hygienic processing areas, suitable water quality, effective pest control, appropriate temperature management and adequate employee hygiene.

Houseflies and rodents can introduce microorganisms into food preparation areas. Stagnant water, inadequate drainage and contaminated surfaces can also increase the risk of cross-contamination.
In dairy processing, poor cold-room maintenance and inadequate temperature control may compromise product quality and accelerate microbial growth. Missing procurement, sanitation and pest-control records can make it more difficult to verify whether food safety procedures are being followed consistently.
The reported enforcement action highlights the importance of routine inspections, proper licensing, documented hygiene controls and laboratory testing in protecting consumers.
Compliance Remains Essential for Food Businesses
The latest inspections underline that food safety compliance involves more than the final product. Manufacturing premises, employee practices, storage facilities, pest management and traceability records all contribute to food safety.
For sweet manufacturers and dairy businesses, maintaining valid licences, clean production environments, documented sanitation procedures and appropriate worker protection is essential to meeting regulatory requirements.
