The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), popularly known as Milma, has clarified that no immediate decision has been taken on revising milk prices in the state. Any discussion on a possible hike will take place only after the local body elections, chairman K.S. Mani said in Thiruvananthapuram.
Price-Hike Proposal on Hold
A committee appointed by Milma to reassess the current price structure has already submitted its report. The board was initially expected to debate the recommendations, but the plan stalled following a recent revision in GST rates.
Mani stressed, however, that GST changes and milk price revision are not directly linked:
“Following the GST revision, we decided not to take up the price revision proposal during the meeting. But GST and price revision have no direct connection,” he said.

Why the Delay?
According to the chairman, the GST adjustment triggered a pause in the board’s deliberations. With local body polls underway, the board chose to wait until the elections conclude before reopening discussions.
What Are Farmers Demanding?
Dairy farmers have sought a ₹5–₹6 per litre increase, citing rising production costs. Mani emphasized that Milma has not taken any official decision, and even the consideration of the hike will depend on the next board meeting.
What’s Next?
The board will reconvene after the elections to decide whether:
- to formally consider the price-hike proposal, and
- whether the currently suggested ₹5–₹6 increase is justified.
Until then, milk prices in Kerala remain unchanged.
