Banas Dairy to market honey

PALANPUR: The Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, popularly known as Banas Dairy, will begin marketing its own brand of honey ‘Banas Honey’ produced under its Village Based Bee-keeping and Honey Production (VBBHP) project in Banaskantha district from December 10.

When fully functional, VBBHP will annually produce 303 tonne honey. Cost of the project is Rs 26.49 crore. The dairy will get 80% subsidy while rest 20% will be borne by beneficiaries, said Banas Dairy chairman Shankar Chaudhary. The dairy will purchase honey from farmers across the district and market under brand name — Banas Honey, said Chaudhary, also MoS for health. “Farmers will get additional income besides milk and agricultural produce,” he added.

This five-year project (from 2016-21) will include 4,050 farmers of 810 milk societies. They will get five-day training. After training each farmer will be given five boxes of honey comb and thus 20,250 honey comb boxes will be kept within five years. Chaudhary added, “Under this project, 150 farmers and officers have been already trained.” PM Narendra Modi will launch Banas Honey on Saturday. Tnn
