In a major technology push for India’s cooperative dairy sector, Amul is set to launch “Sarlaben,” an artificial intelligence-powered digital assistant aimed at transforming dairy farming at the grassroots level.

The AI platform, integrated with Amul’s Automatic Milk Collection System (AMCS) and the Pashudhan application, will provide real-time, personalised guidance to farmers on cattle health, vaccination schedules, breeding practices, feed management, and medical treatment. It will also offer updates on relevant government schemes and subsidies.
The initiative is expected to be formally launched by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel.
24×7 Dairy Support in Gujarati
Farmers will be able to access “Sarlaben” through the Amul Farmer mobile application — which already has over 10 lakh downloads — as well as via voice calls, ensuring accessibility even for those using feature phones or landlines. Gujarati will be the primary language of interaction, making the platform user-friendly for rural communities.
Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), said the initiative aims to deliver verified, structured information directly to farmers in a simple and accessible format.
“By leveraging decades of cooperative data and integrating it with our operational systems, the platform will help farmers take timely decisions that improve animal productivity and income,” he said.
The platform aligns with the broader national vision of using artificial intelligence to empower women milk producers by providing round-the-clock advisory services in dairy farming and animal husbandry.
Built on Five Decades of Cooperative Data
“Sarlaben” is expected to serve more than 36 lakh milk producers — the majority of them women — across over 18,500 villages in Gujarat. These producers collectively supply more than 350 lakh litres of milk daily to the cooperative network.

The AI system has been developed using one of India’s largest cooperative digital databases. Amul’s IT infrastructure processes:
- Over 200 crore milk procurement transactions annually
- Veterinary treatment records for nearly 3 crore cattle
- Around 70 lakh artificial inseminations each year
- Data from more than 1,200 veterinary doctors
- Fodder production inputs generated through ISRO satellite imagery
- A comprehensive cattle census conducted every five years
This vast repository, built over five decades, forms the foundation of the AI’s learning model, enabling it to deliver farmer-specific recommendations based on real operational data rather than generic advisories.
A Digital Shift in the Cooperative Model
With this move, Amul is blending its traditional cooperative strength with advanced digital infrastructure. The introduction of AI at the village level signals a shift from reactive advisory services to proactive, data-driven farm management.
If successfully implemented, “Sarlaben” could significantly enhance milk productivity, improve animal health outcomes, and increase farmer incomes — reinforcing the cooperative’s position as a technology-enabled dairy leader.
In a sector often defined by tradition, Amul is now placing artificial intelligence at the heart of rural dairy development.
