Madhya Pradesh Aims for “Milk Capital” Status: CM Dr. Mohan Yadav Unveils Bold Dairy Reforms

The state has designated the current year as ‘Farmer Welfare Year’ (Krishak Kalyan Varsh), focusing on innovation, modern technology, and direct financial support for the livestock community.

Infrastructure & Healthcare Announcements

To ensure the well-being of the state’s livestock, CM Yadav announced several healthcare initiatives centered in the Gwalior region:

  • Animal Care and Wellness Centre: A new state-of-the-art facility to be established in Gwalior.
  • New Veterinary Hospital: To be constructed in Dabra to serve rural livestock owners.
  • Gau-Ambulance Services: Introduction of mobile units providing on-the-spot treatment via a phone call.
  • Facility Upgrades: Existing animal health centers in Gwalior will be modernized with better medical technology.

Major Incentives for Farmers & Producers

The government introduced several aggressive financial measures to boost production and support dairy entrepreneurs:

  • Guaranteed Procurement: The state government committed to procuring all milk (both cow and buffalo) produced in the state at fair prices.
  • Gaushala Subsidies: A ₹10 lakh subsidy is now available for individuals setting up small-scale cowsheds with at least 25 cows.
  • Feed Assistance: The daily assistance for cattle feed has been doubled from ₹20 to ₹40 per animal.
  • Land Compensation: In a major relief to the farming community, the CM announced fourfold (4x) compensation for any farmland acquired for state development projects.

The “Vrindavan Gram” Model

A standout feature of the new policy is the development of one ‘Vrindavan Gram’ in every block. These model villages will focus on:

  • High-quality breed improvement and artificial insemination.
  • Promotion of organic farming and green fodder production.
  • Rehabilitating stray cattle into high-tech, self-reliant gaushalas.

Model Success: Lal Tipara Gaushala

The Chief Minister highlighted Gwalior’s Lal Tipara Ideal Gaushala as a national blueprint. Managing over 10,000 cattle, it currently produces 25 tonnes of organic fertilizer and 2 tonnes of CNG daily from cow dung, showcasing how dairy farming can lead to green energy solutions.

Scaling Production Goals

Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Shri Lakhan Patel, revealed that daily milk collection in the state has already surged from 9 lakh to 12 lakh litres. Working alongside the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the state has set an ambitious target to reach 50 lakh litres per day.

Currently, Madhya Pradesh manages over 5 lakh cattle through a network of 1,300 newly established gaushalas, positioning the state as a formidable competitor in the national dairy market.
