Jayen Mehta Elected Chairman of Newly Formed Sardar Patel Co-op Dairy Federation

Gandhinagar, May 8, 2026 — In a landmark development for India’s “Sahakar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation) initiative, Dr. Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF/Amul), has been elected unopposed as the first Chairman of the Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation (SPCDF).

The election, held at AmulFed Dairy in Gandhinagar, also saw Sangram Chaudhari (representing the Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers Union) elected unopposed as Vice Chairman. Both leaders will serve a five-year term beginning May 5, 2026.

A National Expansion of the “Amul Model”

Inaugurated by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in July 2025, SPCDF is a multi-state cooperative designed to take the successful Gujarat dairy model to the rest of India.

  • Reach: The federation aims to unite 20 lakh dairy farmers across 20 states (including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Assam).
  • Scale: It targets a network of over 20,000 village dairy cooperative societies that currently operate outside the organized cooperative fold.
  • Capital: Established with an initial corpus of ₹200 crore.

Governance & Vision

The SPCDF board is structured to ensure balanced representation between established Gujarat unions and emerging dairy clusters:

  • Board Composition: Includes representatives from GCMMF, 10 member unions from Gujarat, and three board members specifically representing farmers from other states.
  • Objectives: The federation seeks to provide fair milk pricing, modern input services, and democratic voting rights to millions of farmers who have historically lacked access to an organized market.

Amul Hits Major Milestone

The leadership appointment comes on the heels of Amul (GCMMF) reaching a historic financial milestone. In April 2026, the federation announced that its brand turnover had crossed the ₹1 lakh crore ($12 billion) mark for the first financial year (2025-26), further solidifying its position as India’s largest FMCG organization.

With Dr. Jayen Mehta at the helm of both GCMMF and SPCDF, the industry expects a “Second White Revolution” that focuses on digitizing the dairy supply chain and expanding the brand’s global footprint in markets like Europe and the US.
