Saras Dairy Increases Milk Prices by ₹2 Per Litre; Revised Rates Effective From Today

Jaipur: Rajasthan-based Saras Dairy has announced another increase in retail milk prices, raising rates by ₹2 per litre across key milk variants. The revised prices came into effect on Wednesday, marking the cooperative’s second price revision within just over a month.

Saras Dairy Increases Milk Prices by ₹2 Per Litre; Revised Rates Effective From Today

The latest increase follows a similar ₹2 per litre hike implemented on May 25, reflecting mounting cost pressures faced by dairy cooperatives amid rising input expenses.

Rising Production Costs Prompt Price Revision

According to the Sikar and Jhunjhunu District Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited, the decision was taken after evaluating the continued rise in milk production costs, packaging materials, fuel prices and transportation expenses.

Managing Director K.C. Meena issued the official order approving the revised retail prices.

Industry experts note that dairy processors across India continue to face increasing procurement and logistics costs, compelling many cooperatives and private dairy companies to periodically revise consumer prices while attempting to maintain financial sustainability.

Packaging Sizes Rationalised

Along with the price revision, Saras Dairy has also restructured the packaging formats of some of its popular milk variants.

Under the revised packaging strategy:

  • Saras Toned Milk will be available in 500 ml, 1 litre and 6 litre packs.
  • Saras Gold Milk will also be offered in 500 ml, 1 litre and 6 litre pack sizes.

The move is expected to streamline product offerings while catering to both household and institutional consumers.

Milk Vendors Seek Higher Commission

Following the latest price increase, the Saras Dairy Vendors Association has renewed its demand for higher sales commissions, arguing that retailer earnings have not kept pace with rising operational expenses.

District President Rakesh Dhimwa said vendors are facing increasing financial pressure due to inflation, higher business costs and growing competition in the retail dairy market.

According to the association, despite repeated representations to the dairy management, commission structures have remained unchanged, limiting income growth for milk distributors.

The association has warned that if the issue is not addressed, vendors may jointly decide on future protest measures.

Dairy Sector Faces Cost Pressures

The latest revision reflects broader challenges confronting India’s dairy industry, where rising feed costs, transportation charges, packaging expenses and energy prices continue to impact production economics.

Many dairy cooperatives have been balancing the need to offer remunerative prices to milk producers while keeping retail prices affordable for consumers.

Industry analysts believe periodic price revisions are likely to continue as processors respond to fluctuations in procurement costs and supply-chain expenses.

Outlook

The second milk price increase by Saras Dairy within five weeks highlights the persistent cost pressures affecting India’s dairy sector.

While the revised prices are expected to strengthen the cooperative’s financial position and help offset higher production costs, industry observers note that maintaining a balance between farmer remuneration, distributor margins and consumer affordability will remain a key challenge for dairy cooperatives in the months ahead.
