TAMIL NADU: Milky Mist Dairy Food Limited has clarified that it has not received any notice from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) or the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department directing an inquiry into its paneer products.

The clarification was made in a filing to the stock exchanges following media reports alleging that the Central Food Safety Department had instructed Tamil Nadu authorities to submit samples of Milky Mist paneer for laboratory testing. The reports also claimed that the action followed findings of poor product quality.

The company said it had not received any such communication from the concerned authorities.

“The company will appropriately respond to any communication received from the concerned authorities and take necessary action, if any, in accordance with applicable law,” the company stated in its filing.

Clarification Amid Increased Scrutiny of Paneer Quality

The development comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny of paneer products, including concerns about adulteration and the sale of analogue products that may be marketed or misrepresented as conventional dairy paneer.

Laboratory testing and regulatory inspections play an important role in determining whether products meet applicable food safety and compositional standards. However, the media reports concerning Milky Mist and the company’s clarification represent separate claims; the reported allegations should not be treated as confirmed regulatory findings without an official statement or laboratory report.

Regulatory Findings Await Official Confirmation

Milky Mist’s statement addresses whether it has received an official inquiry notice. It does not, by itself, establish whether any samples have been collected or tested by authorities.

Further clarification from the food safety departments would be needed to establish the status of any reported testing and the basis for the media claims.

The case highlights the importance of transparent regulatory communication and verified laboratory evidence in food safety reporting, particularly when allegations may affect consumer confidence and a dairy company’s reputation.
