The minister said the recruitment drive forms part of the Punjab government’s broader employment initiative under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Strengthening Dairy Extension and Technical Services

The recruitment of technical personnel is relevant to the department’s role in supporting dairy farmers through extension services, training and the dissemination of scientific livestock-management practices.

Dairy Development Inspectors can help connect government programmes with farmers at the field level. Depending on their assigned responsibilities, their work may include farmer training, guidance on scientific feeding, fodder development, livestock management and dairy farm improvement.

Assistant chemists and other technical staff can also support departmental laboratory and analytical activities within their designated roles. Reliable milk composition testing, including the assessment of fat and solids-not-fat (SNF), is important for quality evaluation and procurement transparency. However, detecting chemical adulterants requires appropriate analytical methods beyond routine compositional testing.

Administrative, IT and support personnel are also important to the day-to-day functioning of departmental offices and service facilities.

Dairy Development and Rural Livelihoods

Dairy farming provides an additional source of income for many agricultural households in Punjab. Effective extension services can help farmers improve feeding practices, manage animal health, reduce production losses and make informed decisions about farm investment.

A well-supported departmental workforce may also help improve access to training and government services. The extent of any improvement will depend on staff deployment, vacancies remaining, available infrastructure and the effectiveness of programme implementation.

For farmers and rural entrepreneurs, accessible technical guidance can be particularly valuable when adopting better fodder conservation, balanced feeding, hygienic milk production and value-added dairy processing practices.

Government Employment Initiative

Khudian highlighted the latest appointments as part of the state government’s wider public employment programme. The supplied report states that the Punjab government has filled more than 70,000 government positions over the past four years.

The department-level recruitment total of 98 includes employees appointed across multiple categories since 2022. The latest appointments add to that reported total while expanding the department’s support workforce.

Focus on Service Delivery

The new appointments provide an opportunity to strengthen administrative support and the delivery of dairy development services across Punjab. Effective deployment of technical and support staff will be important in translating recruitment into tangible benefits for dairy farmers.
