Six Domino’s Pizza outlets in Pune division among establishments affected; seized products sent for laboratory testing
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 25 food establishments and four edible oil and spice manufacturing units during a statewide crackdown on food safety violations.

Six Domino’s Pizza outlets in Pune division were among the establishments affected, according to the FDA. The enforcement drive also covered food businesses in Jalna and Parbhani in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division.
Separately, the FDA seized approximately 81,330 kg of suspected substandard, adulterated or mislabelled food products valued at ₹1.73 crore from 37 establishments across six divisions of Maharashtra.
Seized products include edible oil, spices and sweets
According to the FDA’s press release, the seized stock included a range of food commodities, including:
- Edible oil
- Chilli and turmeric powder
- Areca nut
- Dry fruits
- Sabudana
- Bhagar
- Rajgira
- Tea powder
- Sweets
The products were suspected of being substandard, adulterated or incorrectly labelled. Samples have been sent to laboratories for analysis, and further legal action will depend on the findings and applicable provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The seizure does not, by itself, establish that every product involved was adulterated or unsafe.
Licence suspensions across Maharashtra
The FDA reported the following distribution of licence suspensions among food establishments:
| Division | Establishments affected |
|---|---|
| Mumbai | 7 |
| Konkan | 2 |
| Pune | 8 |
| Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | 8 |
| Total | 25 |
The FDA separately reported suspensions involving four edible oil and spice manufacturing units. The available information does not specify their division-wise distribution.
Inspections identify hygiene and handling deficiencies
The enforcement action followed inspections that reportedly identified violations of Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
Reported deficiencies included live cockroaches, fungal contamination, unclean utensils, improper storage and inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
Such conditions can increase the risk of contamination and compromise food hygiene. Effective pest control, sanitation, appropriate storage and separation of food categories are therefore essential components of food safety management.
Laboratory results to guide further action
The FDA said samples of the seized products had been sent for laboratory analysis. Further action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will follow the results and assessment of the applicable regulatory requirements.
The statewide operation highlights the role of inspection, sampling, laboratory testing and enforcement in monitoring food businesses. For restaurants, manufacturers, retailers and distributors, maintaining hygienic premises, safe storage practices and regulatory compliance remains essential.
