Revised rates took effect from midnight on October 16, with 500 ml packs of both variants becoming ₹1 costlier
HYDERABAD: Vijaya Dairy has increased the retail prices of its standardised milk and whole milk by ₹1 per 500 ml packet, according to an announcement by the Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited on October 15.
The revised prices came into effect from midnight on October 16, increasing the cost of both milk variants for consumers and other buyers across the distribution network.
Revised milk prices
Under the revised rates, the price of a 500 ml packet of standardised milk has increased from ₹34 to ₹35, while whole milk now costs ₹40 per 500 ml packet, up from ₹39.
| Milk variant | Previous price (500 ml) | Revised price (500 ml) | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standardised milk | ₹34 | ₹35 | ₹1 |
| Whole milk | ₹39 | ₹40 | ₹1 |
The revision applies to consumers, milk vendors, distributors, institutions, modern retail outlets and e-commerce platforms.
Impact on the dairy market
The price adjustment affects two key milk categories in Vijaya Dairy’s portfolio. For consumers, the increase adds ₹1 to the cost of each 500 ml packet, while vendors and institutional buyers will need to account for the revised rates in their purchasing and sales.
The announcement does not specify the reasons for the increase. Factors such as milk procurement costs, processing, packaging and distribution can influence dairy pricing, but no specific justification should be attributed to Vijaya Dairy without an official statement.
The revised rates mark a ₹1 increase per 500 ml packet for both standardised and whole milk, effective October 16.
