Milk committees established in 129 villages, with dairy union activities operational in 70; Ksheer Sagar Yojana to support cattle health and productivity
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has reviewed the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Vrindavan Gram Yojana, calling for coordinated efforts across government departments to promote dairy farming, improve cattle care and increase milk production.
Chairing a review meeting at the state secretariat, Yadav emphasised the role of animal husbandry in strengthening farmers’ incomes and supporting rural livelihoods. He said the initiative was part of the state’s broader ambition to establish Madhya Pradesh as India’s milk capital.
The scheme is being implemented across 208 rural Assembly constituencies in the state, with a focus on encouraging cattle rearing, supporting livestock owners and expanding dairy-related activities in participating villages.
Milk committees established in 129 villages
Officials informed the meeting that milk committees had been established in 129 villages under the initiative. Dairy union activities were operational in 70 of these villages.

The village-level committees and dairy union activities are intended to provide an institutional foundation for milk collection and dairy development. Such arrangements can help organise milk producers, strengthen links with dairy cooperatives and improve access to formal milk marketing channels.
The government is also working to bring all Vrindavan villages under the Ksheer Sagar Yojana, implemented by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department.
Ksheer Sagar Yojana focuses on cattle health and productivity
Under the Ksheer Sagar Yojana, planned interventions include cattle breed improvement, animal nutrition and veterinary treatment.
These measures are intended to support livestock health and productivity, which are important factors in improving milk yields and strengthening the economic viability of dairy farming.
Breed improvement can contribute to better productive performance when combined with appropriate feeding, disease prevention and breeding management. Similarly, timely veterinary care and balanced nutrition are essential for maintaining animal health and supporting consistent milk production.
Officials also briefed the Chief Minister on gaushalas operating in Vrindavan villages and the activities being undertaken for their development.
Chief Minister calls for interdepartmental coordination
Yadav directed the departments concerned to coordinate their efforts to ensure effective implementation of the programme.
The review covered the establishment of village milk committees, the functioning of dairy union activities, the inclusion of Vrindavan villages under the Ksheer Sagar Yojana and the development of gaushalas.
The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat, Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma and Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal.
Focus on rural dairy development
The Mukhyamantri Vrindavan Gram Yojana brings together village-level dairy organisation, cattle protection and livestock development as part of Madhya Pradesh’s wider dairy growth strategy.
For the state’s dairy sector, the next important indicators will be the expansion of milk collection networks, participation of livestock owners, access to veterinary services and improvements in animal nutrition and productivity.
