KMF increases ghee prices by Rs 90 to Rs 700 per litre

The federation has hiked the ghee prices by Rs 90 to be at Rs 700 per litre, reported CNN-News18.

KMF increases ghee prices by Rs 90 to Rs 700 per litre

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has increased the price of Nandini Ghee by ₹90 per kg, raising the retail price from ₹610 to ₹700 per kg, effective today, November 5. Smaller packs have also become costlier — for example, the 50 ml pouch now costs ₹47.

This price hike applies across all KMF outlets in Karnataka and comes just weeks after the government cut GST on dairy products from 12% to 5% in September.

Why the hike?
KMF says the increase was necessary because of rising production costs and a shortage of butter and ghee in the market. According to Bamul Chairman D.K. Suresh, the cooperative is under financial pressure — it buys up to 1 crore litres of milk daily but sells only about 50 lakh litres, leading to losses despite a ₹4/litre government incentive.

Still cheaper than others:
Even after the hike, Nandini Ghee (₹700/kg) remains cheaper than other brands like Amul, Patanjali, and Gowardhan, which sell between ₹750 and ₹900 per kg. KMF says the new prices will help them maintain product quality and ensure farmers get fair returns.
