A New Biogas Plant to Be Set Up :₹120 Crore Investment to Create Jobs

Biogas Production Hub: A major step is being taken toward energy self-reliance in Bihar’s West Champaran district. The government, in partnership with private companies, has prepared a mega plan to promote biogas production in the district. The objective is to develop alternative energy sources and reduce the country’s dependence on conventional energy.

A New Biogas Plant to Be Set Up Here! ₹120 Crore Investment to Create Jobs

Large Biogas Plants

Private companies from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are planning major biogas production projects in the district.

  • A biogas plant operated by Varddhan Biogas Private Limited is already functioning in Kumarbagh. Three months ago, it began producing 6 tonnes of biogas per day.
  • Bharat GPS Bio Energy Private Limited, based in Mumbai, will also establish a new plant in Kumarbagh with an investment of approximately ₹120 crore.
  • Nautec Bio Fuels Limited from Kanpur will set up two plants at Rampurwa and Pipariya in Gaunaha block. Each plant will have a production capacity of 10 tonnes per day, and the project is expected to cost around ₹80 crore.

Biogas Production Target

Once all the proposed plants become operational, West Champaran is expected to produce approximately 31 tonnes of biogas per day.

Currently, the gas produced at the Kumarbagh plant is being supplied to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). There are also plans to supply the gas directly to households through pipelines in the future.

Raw Materials

The primary raw materials for these projects will be:

  • Press mud generated by sugar mills
  • Cow and buffalo dung collected from livestock farmers

This will not only support biogas production but also ensure the effective utilization of agricultural and industrial waste.

Benefits for Farmers: Organic Fertilizer Production

These biogas plants will do more than just produce energy. They will also generate significant quantities of:

  • Solid organic manure
  • Liquid bio-fertilizer

These products will be made available to farmers, promoting organic farming and improving soil fertility across the region.

A Significant Step Forward

Officials believe that this initiative will bring a major transformation to the energy sector, not only in Bihar but across the state as a whole. The projects are expected to create local employment opportunities, strengthen the rural economy, and contribute to sustainable development through renewable energy production.
