Amul dairy booths in the city soon
JAIPUR: If all goes well, the residents will have an additional option to purchase milk products from other than Saras. After receiving a request from Gujarat cooperative milk marketing federation (GCMMF), the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is looking at possibilities to allot land to set up booths for Amul.
In phase 1, the civic body has proposed to allot 200 booths. The proposal has been forwarded to the finance department for approval. The size required to set up one booth is 100 sq feet, which is one-and-half times more than Saras booth. For the same, exercise has been started to amend the bylaws. “There is a proposal to charge Rs 4,000 per month as fee from each booth owner. The size of the booth will be 10×10 feet. At present, the JMC charges fee of Rs 500 to set up a Saras booth on 6×6 feet area,” said a JMC official.
Currently, there are 600 Saras booths in the city which have been set up in the past 33 years. The number is expected to touch 800 once the new booths come up.
However, the idea has not gone well with the Saras and association members have announced to protest. Om Prakah Poonia, president, Jaipur dairy said, “At any cost, we would not allow other companies to sell pasteurised milk . In the chief secretary meeting, it was decided that state government will milk union to sell its product in the city. How could JMC do that.”
He further said, the matter will be first discussed by the chief secretary and local self-government (LSG) principal secretary. The association would approach to the court, if the state government remains adamant to allot booths to other milk union.
