New Delhi: The Delhi Food Safety Department has destroyed more than 4,100 kg of suspected unsafe khoya and paneer as part of an ongoing festive-season food safety enforcement drive targeting milk and milk-based products.
The campaign covers products including khoya, paneer, chhena and ghee, with food samples being collected from markets and sent for laboratory testing. Products found unsafe during enforcement operations are being removed from circulation.
22 of 30 Khoya Samples Failed Prescribed Standards
The department collected 30 khoya samples from Mori Gate Khoya Mandi in Kashmere Gate.
According to the department, laboratory reports for 22 of the 30 samples showed that they did not meet the prescribed food safety standards and were considered unsafe for human consumption.
The findings have triggered enforcement action against the concerned food business operators.
12 of 19 Paneer and Chhena Samples Failed
The department also received laboratory reports for 19 samples of paneer and chhena. Of these, 12 failed the prescribed standards, while seven were reported to have passed.
The department has initiated proceedings against food businesses whose tested products were found to be non-compliant.
Inspections Intensified Across Delhi
Fresh inspections and enforcement activities were carried out on September 23 at several locations, including Khari Baoli, Okhla Sabzi Mandi, Jheel in East Delhi and Janakpuri Mandi in West Delhi.
Earlier inspections covered markets and commercial areas including Bagh Diwar, Sanjay Market, Mochi Market in Shahdara and Ghazipur.

The department is also conducting inspections of food businesses operating through online channels as part of the festive-season surveillance programme.
Prosecution Proceedings Initiated
The Food Safety Department said prosecution proceedings have been initiated against food business operators whose products were found to violate prescribed food safety standards.
The proceedings are being undertaken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Festive-Season Surveillance to Continue
The enforcement campaign comes during a period of increased demand for traditional milk-based products, when consumption of khoya, paneer, chhena, ghee and dairy-based sweets typically rises.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to conduct regular market inspections and take action in cases where laboratory testing establishes food safety violations.
The Food Safety Department said inspection, sampling and enforcement activities will continue throughout the festive season, with emphasis on identifying unsafe products and preventing their sale to consumers.
