Raipur: A farmer turned the financial assistance received under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme into an opportunity to increase his income. 75-year-old Parshuram Gupta, a farmer from Mahapalli Gram Panchayat in Raipur, saved the ₹2,000 installments received under the scheme and accumulated around ₹10,000. He used this amount to purchase his first cow and started dairy farming.

Gradually, he expanded his income and resources, and today he owns 10 cows.

Saving PM-KISAN Installments in 2020

In 2020, Parshuram Gupta began saving the ₹2,000 installments he received under the PM-KISAN scheme instead of spending them. Over time, he accumulated around ₹10,000. He used this money to purchase his first cow and began dairy farming.

He then gradually increased his income and resources and expanded the number of cattle he owned.

Selling 100 Litres of Milk Every Day

Today, Parshuram Gupta has 10 cows and is regularly engaged in milk production. He currently sells around 100 litres of milk every day.

He sells the milk to a local dairy at a rate of ₹40 per litre. At this rate, his dairy business generates a monthly turnover of approximately ₹1.2 lakh.

After covering expenses, the income helps strengthen the financial condition of his family.

A Passion for Animal Husbandry Turned into a Source of Income

Even at the age of 75, Parshuram Gupta continues to be actively involved in cattle care and dairy farming with dedication.

He says that he has been interested in animal husbandry since childhood, and caring for cows has always been a part of his life. The financial assistance received through PM-KISAN provided him with the initial capital to turn his experience and interest into a source of income.

Growing the Business Through Small Savings

Parshuram Gupta believes that farmers in rural areas can move towards self-reliance by making planned use of even small amounts of financial assistance received through government schemes.

His small initiative, which began with savings from the PM-KISAN installments, has now developed into a dairy farming business.

He believes that with experience, hard work, and the proper use of available resources, age does not have to be a barrier to becoming financially self-reliant.
