Ahead of the National Milk Day, being celebrated on Tuesday, the state govt said that over the past 22 years, Gujarat’s milk production increased by 11.96 million metric tonnes.
The state govt said in a statement on Monday that with an annual milk production of 17.28 million metric tonnes, Gujarat ranks fourth in the country.
The state contributes 7.49% to India’s total milk production.
Over the past 22 years, the average annual growth in milk production across the country was 8.46%, while Gujarat witnessed an average annual growth rate of 10.23% in milk production, the statement added.
In 2000-01, the per capita availability of milk in Gujarat was only 291 grams per day, which increased to 670 grams per day in 2022-23.
The national per capita milk availability reached 459 grams per day in 2022-23, the statement added.
Amul Federation, which acts as a bridge between dairy farmers and consumers, collects more than 3 crore litres of milk every day from across the state. It processes this milk into various products and sells them across India and in about 50 different countries, the statement said.
