Milky Mist Dairy Food has commissioned a new ₹40-crore manufacturing facility for Skyr and Greek Yogurt at its integrated plant in Perundurai, Tamil Nadu, expanding its capacity to 150 tonnes per day as demand for high-protein dairy products accelerates.

The new facility uses ultrafiltration technology and forms part of the company’s broader expansion and modernisation programme at Perundurai. The investment is aimed at increasing production of Skyr and Greek Yogurt while supporting the development of new high-protein dairy products.

Capacity Expansion Targets Growing Protein Demand

Milky Mist said the new facility will help increase the availability of its protein-focused dairy portfolio as consumer interest in high-protein foods and functional nutrition continues to grow.

The company installed its first multi-product yogurt facility in 2022, with an initial capacity of around 20 tonnes per day.

Since then, annual demand for the category has grown by more than 50%, according to the company. Demand for its high-protein yogurt products has also more than doubled in recent months, strengthening the case for a much larger manufacturing base.

The latest investment takes the company’s relevant processing capacity to 150 tonnes per day, providing substantially greater room for volume growth.

Ultrafiltration at the Centre of the New Facility

The Perundurai facility incorporates ultrafiltration, a membrane-based processing technology widely used to concentrate dairy components.

For high-protein yogurt products, the technology can support the production of products with higher protein content while enabling manufacturers to develop differentiated textures and nutritional profiles.

The investment therefore represents more than a simple capacity addition; it strengthens Milky Mist’s manufacturing platform for the expanding protein-led dairy segment.

High-Protein Dairy Moves Towards the Mainstream

“High-protein nutrition is moving from a niche preference to an increasingly mainstream consumption trend,” said K Rathnam, whole-time director and CEO, Milky Mist.

The shift is creating opportunities for dairy companies across categories including Greek yogurt, Skyr, protein-enriched yogurt and other functional dairy products.

For manufacturers, the opportunity is also linked to premiumisation, as consumers increasingly look for products that combine convenience, dairy nutrition and higher protein content.

Milky Mist Expands a Broad Dairy Portfolio

Milky Mist’s growth strategy extends beyond yogurt. As of June 2026, the company said its portfolio covered 22 categories and more than 640 SKUs.

The company has been investing in capacity across its integrated Perundurai operations as it expands its presence in value-added dairy.

Its growing portfolio includes categories such as paneer, cheese, yogurt, ice cream and other dairy products, allowing the company to participate in multiple segments of India’s organised dairy market.

Revenue Crosses ₹3,100 Crore

Milky Mist’s expansion is backed by strong recent revenue growth.

The company’s revenue grew at a 31.26% CAGR between FY24 and FY26, reaching ₹3,138.36 crore in FY26.

The combination of capacity expansion, portfolio diversification and rising demand for value-added dairy is positioning the company for further growth as India’s organised dairy market develops.

The Bigger Picture

Milky Mist’s ₹40-crore Skyr and Greek Yogurt investment highlights a broader change taking place in India’s dairy industry.

While traditional liquid milk remains the industry’s largest category, value-added dairy is increasingly becoming a major growth engine, particularly products linked to convenience, premiumisation and nutrition.

The jump from a 20-tonne-per-day yogurt facility in 2022 to a 150-tonne-per-day high-protein dairy facility also illustrates how quickly manufacturers are scaling capacity around emerging consumption trends.

For the industry, the key question will be whether India’s growing interest in protein-rich foods can translate into sustained mass-market demand—and whether dairy companies can scale these products while maintaining affordability and strong margins.
