Milma Sets ₹10,000 Crore Turnover Target by 2030-31, Plans Global Expansion Through Strategic Partnerships

Kerala Dairy Cooperative Charts Aggressive Growth Path While Retaining Farmer-Centric Model.

Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) has unveiled an ambitious growth roadmap, targeting a turnover of ₹10,000 crore by 2030-31, more than doubling its current business size through expansion in domestic and international markets, product diversification, and stronger retail presence.

Milma Sets ₹10,000 Crore Turnover Target by 2030-31, Plans Global Expansion Through Strategic Partnerships

The announcement was made by K S Mani during the Kerala Retail Conclave organized by the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kochi.

Strong Growth Foundation

Milma recorded a turnover of ₹4,344 crore during FY 2025-26, reinforcing its position as one of India’s leading cooperative dairy organizations.

According to K.S. Mani, the federation’s future growth strategy will continue to focus on strengthening farmer incomes while expanding market reach.

A key highlight of Milma’s business model is its farmer-first approach. Nearly 83 percent of the selling price of milk and dairy products is passed directly to dairy farmers, making it one of the country’s most farmer-oriented cooperative structures.

“Our growth strategy is not only about increasing turnover but also about ensuring sustainable income growth for dairy farmers who form the backbone of Kerala’s dairy sector,” Mani emphasized.

Kerala Offers Significant Dairy Growth Potential

Despite being one of India’s most productive dairy states, Kerala continues to face a substantial milk supply deficit.

Kerala ranks among the top states in milk productivity, yet nearly 50 percent of the state’s milk requirement is sourced from outside Kerala.

Industry experts believe this gap presents significant opportunities for:

  • Dairy farm expansion
  • Breed improvement programs
  • Milk procurement growth
  • Processing infrastructure development
  • Value-added dairy manufacturing
  • Private and cooperative sector investments

The increasing demand for milk and dairy products in the state provides a strong foundation for future sector growth.

International Expansion Through Lulu Partnership

As part of its global growth strategy, Milma has entered into a strategic partnership with Lulu Group International.

The collaboration is expected to provide access to international retail markets, particularly in regions with large Indian expatriate populations and growing demand for ethnic dairy products.

The partnership could create export opportunities for products such as:

  • Ghee
  • Butter
  • Paneer
  • Traditional dairy products
  • Value-added milk products

Industry analysts view the partnership as a significant step in transforming Milma from a regional dairy cooperative into a globally recognized dairy brand.

Digital and E-Commerce Expansion

Alongside international expansion, Milma is strengthening its domestic presence through collaborations with major e-commerce platforms.

The move reflects changing consumer purchasing behavior, where online grocery and dairy product sales continue to witness strong growth.

Digital channels are expected to help Milma:

  • Reach new consumer segments
  • Expand beyond traditional markets
  • Improve product accessibility
  • Enhance brand visibility
  • Strengthen direct-to-consumer engagement

Retail Sector Trends Supporting Dairy Growth

During the conclave, experts highlighted several trends reshaping Kerala’s retail economy.

The state’s annual retail market is estimated at ₹3.5 lakh crore to ₹4.5 lakh crore, creating significant opportunities for food and dairy businesses.

Key growth drivers include:

  • Expansion of organized retail
  • Rapid adoption of digital payments
  • Growing demand for frozen and convenience foods
  • Health and wellness-focused consumption
  • Sustainability-conscious purchasing
  • Growth of Tier-II and Tier-III markets
  • Emergence of private-label products

These trends are expected to support increased consumption of packaged and value-added dairy products.

Recognition for Milma’s Contribution

At the conclave, Milma received the prestigious Spice Coast Legacy Award, recognizing its long-standing contribution to Kerala’s cooperative movement, dairy development, and rural livelihoods.

Over the decades, the federation has played a critical role in:

  • Strengthening dairy cooperatives
  • Ensuring remunerative prices for farmers
  • Enhancing milk self-sufficiency
  • Promoting scientific dairy farming
  • Building dairy processing infrastructure across Kerala

Road Ahead

Milma’s ₹10,000 crore turnover target reflects the growing confidence within India’s cooperative dairy sector.

With strong farmer participation, increasing consumer demand, digital transformation, international market access, and opportunities to bridge Kerala’s milk deficit, the federation is positioning itself for sustained long-term growth.

If successfully implemented, Milma’s expansion strategy could not only strengthen Kerala’s dairy economy but also serve as a model for cooperative dairy organizations seeking to balance commercial growth with farmer welfare.

The federation’s next phase of growth will likely focus on increasing milk procurement, expanding value-added product portfolios, strengthening exports, and enhancing farmer incomes while maintaining its cooperative principles.
