Dairy Goat Co-operative (DGC) has entered into an investment partnership with AGR Partners, a US-based agribusiness investment firm, to support the cooperative’s international expansion in the goat milk infant formula and specialised dairy nutrition market.

The partnership is intended to provide additional capital for processing, packaging, brand development and international distribution while retaining the cooperative’s farmer-owned structure.
External Capital, Farmer Ownership Retained
DGC said the investment has been structured to preserve its position as a 100% farmer-owned cooperative.
The external capital will support the cooperative’s processing and commercial activities without transferring ownership of the core supplier structure to the investor. The arrangement is designed to provide additional resources for international market development while maintaining producer participation in the cooperative’s governance.
For DGC’s farmer shareholders, maintaining the cooperative model keeps milk supply and producer interests at the centre of the business as the company expands into overseas markets.
Focus on Global Goat Milk Infant Nutrition
The investment comes as demand for goat milk-based infant and toddler nutrition products continues to develop across international markets.
The global goat milk infant formula market has been estimated at around US$5.1 billion, with demand supported by consumer interest in alternative dairy-based nutrition products.

Goat milk formulas are marketed in several countries based on characteristics such as their protein composition and digestibility. However, regulatory requirements and permitted nutrition claims vary significantly between markets, making compliance an important part of international expansion.
Investment to Strengthen Processing and Packaging
The capital will support DGC’s processing operations in New Zealand’s Waikato region, including efforts to improve manufacturing throughput and expand value-added packaging capabilities.
Rather than focusing primarily on bulk goat milk powder, the cooperative has developed finished infant and toddler nutrition products, allowing it to capture additional value further along the dairy supply chain.
Additional investment in packaging and analytical testing capabilities is also expected to support the requirements of overseas food-safety and product-registration systems.
Expanding Beyond New Zealand’s Dairy Goat Sector
The partnership provides DGC with additional resources to strengthen its presence in international markets, including major consumer markets in North America and Asia.
For a specialised dairy cooperative, the arrangement illustrates how external growth capital can be combined with a farmer-owned ownership model to finance processing and market expansion.
As DGC increases its focus on higher-value infant and toddler nutrition products, the cooperative will seek to expand international sales while maintaining its producer-owned structure and links with New Zealand goat milk suppliers.
