The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED) has achieved its highest-ever financial performance, recording a turnover of ₹1,036.82 crore and a record profit of ₹10.23 crore during the financial year 2025-26.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for Odisha’s dairy sector and reflects the growing strength of the state’s cooperative milk movement.
Record Financial Performance
Announcing the results, Odisha’s Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister, Gokulananda Mallick, said OMFED’s strong financial performance demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to strengthen milk production, procurement, and dairy infrastructure across the state.
The Minister reviewed various programmes related to:
- Milk cooperative societies
- Dairy plant modernization
- Milk procurement systems
- Cold-chain infrastructure
- Dairy sector expansion
He reiterated the Odisha government’s commitment to making the state self-reliant in milk and dairy products.
Expansion of Dairy Processing Capacity
During the review meeting, departmental officials highlighted major infrastructure developments.
According to Secretary Prem Chandra Chaudhary:
- A 50,000-litre-per-day dairy plant has been established at Sonepur.
- A 30,000-litre-per-day dairy plant has been established at Tangi.
These facilities are expected to improve milk processing capacity and support growing milk procurement volumes within the state.
Rapid Growth of Milk Cooperatives
The cooperative network has expanded significantly over the last two years.
Key achievements include:
- 1,061 new milk cooperative societies registered.
- Strengthening of farmer participation in organized milk marketing.
- Improved access to procurement channels for rural dairy producers.
The expansion is expected to enhance income opportunities for small and marginal dairy farmers across Odisha.
Strengthening Cold Chain Infrastructure
Under the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, the state has invested heavily in milk preservation and transportation infrastructure.
Major developments include:
- Establishment of 21 new milk chilling centres.
- Expansion of cold-chain facilities.
- Reduction in milk spoilage and quality losses.
- Improved efficiency in milk collection and transportation.
These investments are crucial for maintaining milk quality and ensuring reliable procurement from remote areas.
Strong Procurement Network
OMFED currently procures approximately:
- 6.70 lakh litres of milk per day
- From nearly 3.24 lakh dairy farmers
- Through 4,455 milk cooperative societies
This extensive procurement network has helped integrate thousands of rural households into the organized dairy sector.
New Milk Collection Centres Planned
To further strengthen grassroots procurement, OMFED is opening:
- 160 new milk collection centres across various blocks of Odisha.
The initiative is expected to:
- Increase milk procurement volumes.
- Reduce transportation challenges for farmers.
- Improve access to cooperative marketing channels.
- Expand dairy development in underserved regions.
Vision 2030 for Dairy Farmers
Managing Director Vijay Amruta Kulange said the federation is focused on ensuring:
- Hassle-free milk procurement.
- Increased milk production.
- Expansion of dairy infrastructure.
- Better returns for farmers.
- Economic prosperity for nearly 3.28 lakh dairy farmers by 2030.
The long-term strategy aims to position Odisha as a stronger player in India’s dairy sector while improving rural livelihoods through cooperative dairying.
