Pune-based dairy and nutrition company Provilac has raised $14 million from Panthera Growth Partners in its first institutional funding round, as it looks to expand manufacturing capacity, accelerate product innovation and enter new markets including Bengaluru.

Founded in 2013, Provilac has operated as a bootstrapped business for more than a decade and has built a fresh-dairy model focused on high-protein nutrition.
The new investment will support the company’s expansion across manufacturing, product development and market presence, while strengthening its position in India’s emerging high-protein dairy segment.
From Fresh Milk to High-Protein Dairy
Provilac says it pioneered fresh high-protein milk in India, building a category around increasing protein consumption through everyday dairy products.
Its flagship product provides 25 grams of protein in a 250-ml serving, which the company says is roughly three times the protein content of regular milk.
The product is manufactured using ultrafiltration, a membrane-based process that concentrates naturally occurring milk proteins rather than relying on added protein powders or other protein sources.
The company also offers the product in a lactose-free format.
Quality Control and Fresh-Dairy Model
Provilac has developed an integrated fresh-dairy operation designed to provide greater control over quality and consistency from sourcing through to delivery.
The company said its quality and safety programme includes third-party testing every three months at NABL-accredited laboratories.
Testing covers nutritional parameters as well as antibiotic residues, adulteration, aflatoxin, microbiological parameters and other relevant food-safety indicators.
This quality-led approach is central to the company’s positioning in the premium fresh-dairy segment.
Portfolio Expands Beyond High-Protein Milk
Provilac’s portfolio has expanded beyond its flagship milk.
The company currently offers infused high-protein milk variants in familiar and contemporary flavours, along with high-protein curd in multiple formats.
It plans to introduce additional fresh-dairy products, including high-protein dairy products fortified with vitamins and other micronutrients.

The strategy reflects a broader shift from selling a single high-protein product towards building a wider everyday nutrition platform around dairy.
Serving More Than 50,000 Households Daily
Provilac currently serves more than 50,000 households every day, according to the company.
Its primary distribution model is its own app, operated largely through a subscription-based doorstep delivery system.
The company currently serves consumers across:
- Mumbai
- Pune
- Hyderabad
- Delhi-NCR
- Jaipur
It is now expanding its Bengaluru presence through FirstClub and Blinkit Gourmet, adding new channels alongside its established direct-to-consumer model.
Bengaluru Expansion Marks Next Growth Phase
The Bengaluru expansion comes as Provilac looks to take its high-protein dairy proposition into additional urban markets.
The company believes its combination of fresh delivery, subscription convenience and protein-focused nutrition can help make high-protein dairy part of consumers’ regular routines rather than an occasional functional-food purchase.
The new funding is expected to provide capital for this geographic expansion while supporting additional manufacturing and product development.
Founder: India Can Build Protein Nutrition Around Milk
“For more than a decade, we have built Provilac as a lean, bootstrapped business with a simple belief: India does not need to import its way to better protein nutrition when the answer already lies in our own milk,” said Siddharth Runwal, founder and chief executive of Provilac.
He said the company created a fresh high-protein milk category without relying on added protein powders and that the new investment would help strengthen manufacturing, accelerate innovation and expand its reach across India.
Panthera Sees Opportunity in India’s Protein Gap
Panthera Growth Partners General Partner Shilpa Kulkarni said India’s protein gap represents a significant unmet nutrition opportunity.
“Provilac has done the hard work of building fresh, high-protein dairy at scale, with control over the supply chain, the science and the last mile,” Kulkarni said.
According to Panthera, the company has demonstrated that consumers are willing to pay for improved nutrition when it can be incorporated conveniently into everyday consumption habits.
A New Segment for India’s Dairy Industry
Provilac’s fundraise comes as India’s dairy sector increasingly moves beyond traditional liquid milk towards protein-rich, functional and value-added products.
The high-protein dairy opportunity sits at the intersection of two trends: India’s large milk consumption base and growing consumer interest in convenient sources of protein.
For dairy companies, the challenge will be to deliver higher protein content while maintaining taste, texture, shelf life, affordability and consumer trust.
The Bigger Picture
The $14-million investment gives Provilac the capital to move from a largely bootstrapped operation into its next phase of growth.
Its model is particularly notable because it combines fresh dairy processing, ultrafiltration, subscription-based D2C distribution and high-protein positioning rather than treating protein as simply another packaged-food claim.
The bigger opportunity, however, extends beyond Provilac. As consumers become more conscious of protein intake, India’s dairy industry could see rapid growth in high-protein milk, yogurt, curd, whey-based products and micronutrient-fortified dairy.
If Provilac can successfully replicate its fresh-delivery model across more cities while maintaining product quality and attractive unit economics, the company could emerge as an important player in India’s developing high-protein dairy category.
