UP’s Mini Nandini Yojana: Dairy Farmers Can Get Up to ₹11.8 Lakh Subsidy to Set Up 10-Cow Unit

Lucknow: Aspiring dairy entrepreneurs in Uttar Pradesh can receive financial assistance of up to ₹11.80 lakh under the state’s Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, a scheme launched under the Nand Baba Milk Mission to promote indigenous cattle rearing and strengthen rural dairy livelihoods.

UP’s Mini Nandini Yojana: Dairy Farmers Can Get Up to ₹11.8 Lakh Subsidy to Set Up 10-Cow Unit

The scheme aims to encourage small-scale dairy farming by subsidising the establishment of 10-cow dairy units based on indigenous breeds.

Subsidy Structure

The government has fixed the project cost of a 10-cow dairy unit at ₹23.60 lakh. Of this:

  • 50% (up to ₹11.80 lakh) will be provided as a government subsidy.
  • 15% of the project cost must be contributed by the beneficiary.
  • The remaining 35% can be financed through a bank loan.

The subsidy will be credited directly to beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system in two phases. The first instalment, equivalent to 25% of the project cost, will be released after completion of the dairy infrastructure. The remaining 25% will be transferred after the purchase of eligible cattle.

Indigenous Breeds Only

The scheme is restricted to recognised indigenous cattle breeds, including:

  • Sahiwal
  • Gir
  • Tharparkar

Officials have advised beneficiaries to procure animals from their original breeding tracts, preferably outside Uttar Pradesh. Eligible cows must be in their first or second lactation and should have calved within the previous 45 days. Mandatory ear-tagging and insurance of all animals are compulsory under the scheme.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • At least three years of experience in rearing cows or buffaloes, certified by the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO).
  • Availability of 0.20 acres of land for dairy infrastructure and 0.80 acres for fodder cultivation.
  • Land may be owned, inherited or leased under a registered seven-year agreement and must be free from waterlogging.

Who Cannot Apply

The scheme excludes farmers who have already received benefits under similar government programmes, including:

  • Kamdhenu Scheme
  • Mini/Micro Kamdhenu Scheme
  • Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana under the Nand Baba Milk Mission
  • Chief Minister Swadeshi Gau-Samvardhan Yojana

Application Process

Applications will eventually be accepted through an online portal. Until the portal is operational, eligible farmers can submit applications offline either by registered post or directly at the offices of the Chief Development Officer (CDO) or Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) of their respective districts.

If applications exceed the number of available beneficiaries, selection will be carried out through an electronic lottery (e-lottery).

Boosting Indigenous Dairy Farming

The Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader strategy to expand milk production, promote indigenous cattle breeds, and generate sustainable rural employment. By lowering the initial investment burden, the scheme is expected to encourage more farmers and rural entrepreneurs to establish organised dairy units while improving the state’s dairy infrastructure.
