The Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation brand Aavin has announced a special incentive of ₹2 per litre of milk for farmers supplying milk to the Tiruchi Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union. The incentive will be applicable for two months (March and April) to support farmers during the summer season.
Milk Procurement and Distribution
Tiruchi Aavin currently procures around 5 lakh litres of milk per day from member cooperative societies. The collected milk is distributed as follows:
- 1.6 lakh litres/day → Direct sales in Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur district, and Ariyalur district
- 3 lakh litres/day → Sent to Chennai to meet the city’s milk demand
Reason for the Incentive
Milk procurement generally declines during summer months because:
- Heat stress reduces milk yield in cattle
- Fodder and water availability may decline
- Farmers face higher management costs
To stabilise milk procurement and support farmers’ income, Aavin has introduced this temporary incentive scheme.

Total Incentive to Farmers
Farmers supplying milk to Tiruchi Aavin will receive:
- ₹3 per litre – Existing incentive
- ₹2 per litre – Additional special incentive (March–April)
Total incentive: ₹5 per litre
Expected Impact
The scheme is expected to:
- Encourage farmers to maintain milk supply during summer
- Prevent shortage of milk in urban markets
- Provide financial relief to dairy farmers
- Ensure stable procurement for Aavin’s distribution network
