Lucknow | April 2026 — In a major push to strengthen the dairy sector, the government signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹3,000 crore at a high-profile dairy conclave held in Lucknow.

The two-day event, organised to mark 50 years of the Dairy Development Department, brought together nearly 10,000 stakeholders, including animal husbandry practitioners, milk producers, and investors.
Major Investments and Job Creation
Addressing the gathering, Dharampal Singh, Minister for Animal Husbandry, highlighted the scale of ongoing investments:
- 59 MoUs worth ₹3,000+ crore signed at the event
- Expected to generate over 13,000 jobs
- Participation from key dairy players such as Ananda Dairy, Gyan Dairy, and Param Dairy
He added that the department has already executed 796 MoUs worth ₹25,000 crore, with a potential to create more than 60,000 employment opportunities.

Dairy Sector’s Growing Economic Contribution
The minister emphasized that the dairy sector has become a critical pillar of the state economy:
- Contribution to GSVA: ₹1.72 lakh crore
- Uttar Pradesh remains India’s largest milk-producing state
Milk production has seen remarkable growth:
- 2016–17: 277.70 lakh tonnes
- 2025–26: 1,836.85 lakh tonnes
- Per capita availability: Increased from 352 gm/day to 450 gm/day
Focus on Rural Economy and Technology
The conclave featured expert sessions on:
- Advanced dairy technologies
- Government schemes
- Indigenous cattle breed development
- Strengthening rural livelihoods
Under the Nand Baba Dugdh Mission, the state has disbursed ₹84 crore via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to over 10,000 beneficiaries.
Additionally, more than 4,000 primary milk cooperative societies have been formed, connecting around 1.5 lakh milk producers across the state.
Recognition and Incentives
To encourage excellence, the government honoured top-performing dairy entrepreneurs and practitioners. Financial rewards under the Nand Baba Puraskar for 2024–25 were distributed via DBT to 139 beneficiaries.

With rising investments, policy support, and expanding cooperative networks, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a key driver of India’s dairy growth story, boosting both rural incomes and employment.
