New Delhi: The Government of India has announced a major milestone in the digital transformation of the country’s dairy cooperative sector, informing Parliament that 1,19,839 active Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCSs), including 24,097 Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies (MDCSs), have been registered on the newly launched Milk Supply Review Dashboard.
The digital platform is designed to strengthen real-time monitoring of India’s vast dairy cooperative network by providing state- and district-level information on milk procurement and cooperative operations.
Replying to a starred question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) said the dashboard includes district-wise data from across the country, including regions such as Pali in Rajasthan and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
₹30,938 Crore Investment Through AHIDF
The Minister also highlighted the progress made under the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), stating that the scheme has facilitated ₹30,938 crore in private investment to modernise India’s livestock sector.
Of the total investment mobilised, ₹21,312.62 crore has been directed towards the dairy sector, supporting projects related to milk processing, value addition, cold-chain infrastructure, and modern dairy facilities.

The AHIDF provides eligible beneficiaries with a 3% interest subvention, encouraging private investment alongside cooperative sector expansion.
Strengthening Animal Healthcare
Providing an update on veterinary healthcare infrastructure, the Minister informed Parliament that 4,019 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) are currently operational across the country under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP).
Among them:
- 406 Mobile Veterinary Units are operating in Madhya Pradesh.
- 10 Mobile Veterinary Units are serving Gwalior district.
The mobile units provide doorstep veterinary services, helping improve animal health, disease surveillance, and access to treatment for livestock farmers.
According to the Ministry, the performance of these units is regularly monitored through state-level reviews, field visits, third-party evaluations, and indicators such as fund utilisation, number of farmers served, and animals treated.
No Immediate Expansion Plan
While highlighting ongoing investments in dairy infrastructure and digital governance, the Government clarified that there is currently no proposal to launch a new action plan for further expanding either the Mobile Veterinary Unit network or the dairy cooperative system.
Instead, the focus remains on strengthening the efficiency and performance of existing institutions through improved monitoring, infrastructure support, and technology-enabled governance.
Digital Transformation of the Dairy Sector
The launch of the Milk Supply Review Dashboard marks another step in the government’s broader efforts to modernise India’s dairy ecosystem through digital tools.
Officials believe the platform will improve transparency, facilitate data-driven decision-making, and enable better monitoring of milk procurement and cooperative performance across the country.
With nearly 1.2 lakh dairy cooperative societies now digitally integrated and close to ₹31,000 crore mobilised through AHIDF, the government aims to strengthen India’s dairy value chain while enhancing infrastructure, improving livestock services, and supporting millions of dairy farmers nationwide.
