Surat: In a major food safety crackdown, authorities seized 329 kilograms of suspected fake paneer during a joint raid in the Puna Gam area of Surat.

329 Kg of Suspected Fake Paneer Seized in Surat

The operation was carried out at A-1 Dairy Foods by the Surat Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Food Safety Department following specific intelligence inputs. Acting swiftly, officials confiscated loose paneer stock valued at approximately ₹65,800 from the premises.

The name of the dairy owner has emerged as Satyaveer Tarasingh Dhakre. Police have taken possession of the stock and initiated further legal proceedings.

Daily Sales of 100 Kg, Investigation Reveals

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused allegedly purchased paneer at ₹200 per kg and sold it at ₹220 per kg. Authorities stated that nearly 100 kilograms of paneer were being sold daily.

Investigators suspect the operation had been running for nearly two and a half years.

The paneer was reportedly supplied not only through direct retail sales but also distributed to local dairies and caterers. Officials expressed concern that a significant number of consumers in the city may have unknowingly consumed the suspected product.

Samples Sent for Laboratory Testing

Food Safety officials have collected samples of the seized paneer and sent them for laboratory analysis. If the product is confirmed to be adulterated or unfit for human consumption, stringent legal action will follow under applicable food safety laws.

Adulterated paneer can pose serious health risks, including food poisoning, gastrointestinal infections, and other foodborne illnesses.

Authorities Warn of Continued Crackdowns

Rajdeep Nakum, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), stated that inspections and strict enforcement drives against food adulteration will continue across the city. He emphasized that there will be zero tolerance for practices that endanger public health.

Officials confirmed that the illegal operation was exposed through coordinated efforts between the police and the Food Department, and similar action will be undertaken in other areas if necessary.

Residents have been urged to immediately report any suspicious food products to the authorities to enable prompt investigation and action.
