Ranchi: Acting on a tip-off, food safety sleuths with the help of local administration on Thursday seized 560 kg of spurious paneer, 20 kg cream and 20 kg ghee, from an auto in Ormanjhi. The crackdown comes close to a month after marathon raids in different districts led to seizures of thousands of kilos of adulterated panner and khowa from Bihar.
Talking to TOI, Ranchi food safety officer, Subir Ranjan said, “Both paneer and cream have been destroyed after formal testing. They were found to be fake and highly adulterated. We have also sent their samples along with that of ghee for more tests to the food lab. After the report, we shall take a decision to file cases against the owner of the auto and its driver.”
The consignment came from Bihar. Ranjan said that investigation is on. He added, “As per information, the consignment reached near Chutupalu Valley via bus where it was unloaded last night. Early morning, it was being loaded in an auto when we nabbed them.”
Ranjan said that soon after getting intel about the consignment, they had informed Ranchi SDO Utkarsh Kumar, who promptly alerted the local police station directing them to nab the culprits.
The auto driver, however, couldn’t provide further details as he wasn’t aware about the origin of the consignment. The driver said that he was only asked by his owner to pick the consignment,” the officer said, adding that probably they were meant to be supplied to eateries and dhabas along the highway on NH-33.

According to food safety sleuths, such spurious items are mainly coming to Jharkhand from Khagariya, Patna, Chapra, Bhaktiyarpur, Maneer and places bordering Jharkhand. Previously talking to TOI, Ranjan had said that their analysis into the entire nexus revealed that Bihar and Bengal are the major suppliers of fake paneer and milk products to Jharkhand and enter either through Koderma, Gaya-Barhi from Bihar or through Silli and Tamar in West Bengal.
