Bhopal, December 24, 2025: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Tuesday outlined an ambitious strategy to position the state’s dairy sector as a major driver of industrial activity, rural employment and enhanced farm incomes.

Speaking at a state-level review meeting on dairy development, Dr. Yadav emphasized the government’s intent to expand milk production, processing and marketing in an integrated manner across all districts, while bolstering the reputation of the Sanchi dairy brand.
Strengthening the Sanchi Identity
Dr. Yadav said the branding of Sanchi products should reflect the contributions of both cattle rearers and dairy farmers, and called for coordinated efforts from village cooperatives up to the state level to ensure a unified market presence.
The meeting was convened by a steering committee established under an agreement between the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and was attended by senior state officials, federation executives and NDDB representatives.
Focus on Farm Incomes and Producer Welfare
Highlighting the role of dairy farming in enhancing rural livelihoods, the chief minister stressed:
- Capacity-building programmes at the village level
- Closer monitoring of milk collection systems
- Transparent procurement practices
- Remunerative prices for milk producers
- Timely payments within defined deadlines
Officials noted that procurement prices have been raised by ₹2.50 to ₹8.50 per litre depending on dairy union performance.
A 10-day roster has also been fixed to ensure regular, timely payments to milk producers — a move aimed at boosting producer confidence.
Public-Private Partnerships and Skill Development
Dr. Yadav advocated expanding dairy operations through public-private partnerships, combining private sector investment with cooperative strength to:
- Spur local entrepreneurship
- Generate employment
- Stimulate broader economic growth
He also urged industrial training institutes to introduce dairy technology courses, creating a skilled workforce for plant operations and generating local jobs for youth.

Progress and Digital Integration
Officials reported that public confidence in Sanchi products has strengthened since NDDB’s operational involvement, with rising demand prompting proposals to establish new Sanchi dairy units.
Notable developments include:
- Formation of 1,241 new dairy cooperative societies
- Revival of 635 inactive cooperatives
- Digitization of the entire dairy value chain
- Deployment of software in Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain, Bundelkhand and Jabalpur
- A mobile app by the Indore dairy union providing real-time data on milk quantity, quality and pricing
Ambitious Growth Targets
The state has charted aggressive targets for the next four years, including:
- Expanding cooperative dairy coverage to 26,000 villages by 2029–30
- Increasing daily milk collection to 5.2 million kg
- Boosting daily sales to 3.5 million litres
- Building processing capacity up to 6.33 million litres per day
To support these goals, several underutilised or closed dairy plants are being revived, including facilities in Shivpuri, Jabalpur, Indore and Gwalior.
Takeaway
Madhya Pradesh’s renewed emphasis on dairy reflects a broader push to transition the sector from commodity sales to value-chain driven rural development. With a blend of branding, digitization, price support and capacity building, the state aims to leverage dairy as a cornerstone of economic opportunity and employment in rural India.
