Milk and Ghee Worth ₹7.78 Lakh Seized in Telangana During Anti-Adulteration Drive

The action was part of a special enforcement campaign led by the state’s food safety authorities to curb the sale of substandard dairy products.

Widespread Inspections Across the State

On April 16:

  • 71 inspections were conducted
  • 91 samples of milk and dairy products were collected
  • Multiple violations related to adulteration and hygiene were identified

Officials confirmed that samples have been sent for laboratory analysis, and further action will follow based on the results.

Major Violations Detected

Inspections revealed several serious lapses:

  • Milk centres operating without valid registration
  • Sale of loose, unpackaged milk and ghee
  • Non-compliance with basic hygiene and safety norms

Authorities have issued show-cause notices to violators.

Earlier Crackdown in Secunderabad

In a related operation last month in Secunderabad:

  • 3,892 kg of adulterated paneer and dairy products were seized
  • Total value: ₹11.11 lakh
  • Six individuals arrested

Products seized included paneer, khoa, cream, ghee, and kalakand.

Food Safety Violations Raise Concerns

Officials found alarming conditions:

  • Products stored in open plastic covers
  • Exposure to dust, flies, and contaminants
  • Lack of mandatory labelling (brand name, manufacturing & expiry dates)
  • No records of pest control measures

These violations indicate serious risks to consumer health and breach of food safety regulations.

Regulatory Focus Tightens

The crackdown reflects growing enforcement under food safety norms aligned with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India guidelines, aimed at:

  • Preventing adulteration
  • Ensuring hygiene in dairy handling
  • Protecting public health

Bottom Line

Loose milk and fake ghee might look like a bargain—but enforcement agencies are making it clear: cheap dairy can come at a serious health cost.
