Mumbai | April 2026 — Legacy dairy brands Aarey Dairy and Mahanand Dairy are set to be relaunched soon, as part of a broader push to strengthen the organised dairy sector in Maharashtra.

The development was shared by Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board, during a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Push to Reduce Adulteration
A key highlight of the initiative is the development of a rapid test strip by NDDB that can:
- Detect urea and other adulterants in milk
- Be deployed at scale within six months
The move comes amid concerns that:
- Only 40% of milk in the state is processed through the organised sector
- The remaining 60% (unorganised sector) is more vulnerable to adulteration
AI-Based Monitoring in the Pipeline
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has proposed:
- Collaboration between NDDB and Indian Institute of Technology
- Development of an AI-based system to detect and prevent milk adulteration
This signals a shift toward technology-driven food safety enforcement.
Expanding the Cooperative Network
NDDB aims to:
- Connect 75,000 new villages to the cooperative dairy system nationwide
- Increase farmer participation
- Reduce dependency on informal supply chains
This strategy is expected to:
- Improve farmer income
- Enhance milk quality and traceability
Revival and Infrastructure Expansion
The revival of Mahanand Dairy is already underway:
- 78% of revival work completed
- New greenfield dairy plant (3 lakh litres/day capacity) planned
Projects include:
- Modern dairy facility in Udgir
- State-of-the-art dairy project in Butibori
- Signature parlours and upgraded infrastructure in Goregaon

Sustainability and Regional Expansion
- A compressed biogas plant will be set up in Aarey Colony
- Milk procurement is being expanded across 19 districts of Vidarbha and Marathwada
- A modern testing laboratory has been established for quality assurance
Outlook
With:
- Revival of legacy brands
- Integration of AI and testing technology
- Expansion of cooperative networks
National Dairy Development Board is aiming to modernise Maharashtra’s dairy ecosystem while tackling one of its biggest challenges—adulteration.
Bottom Line
India’s dairy future isn’t just about producing more milk—it’s about producing clean, traceable, and trustworthy milk. And that battle is now going high-tech.
