Jammu/Srinagar | April 2026 — In a major boost to food logistics and supply chain efficiency, Indian Railways has successfully delivered its first bulk consignment of Amul milk and dairy products to Jammu and Kashmir via rail.

The milestone marks the first-ever large-scale rail shipment of Amul products to the Union Territory, improving access to essential dairy items in the region.

The special freight train:
- Comprised 20 BCN wagons
- Originated from Linch Goods Shed
- Delivered cargo to:
- Bari Brahman
- Anantnag
Each set of 10 wagons carried approximately:
- 500 tonnes of dairy products

Faster, Cheaper, More Reliable Supply

A Growing Trend in Bulk Freight Movement
This is not the first such initiative:

The latest dairy shipment further strengthens the rail-based logistics network in the Kashmir Valley.
Industry Impact
According to officials, the direct rail link will:
- Improve product availability in local markets
- Benefit consumers through stable pricing
- Support organized dairy distribution in the region
Outlook
With rising demand for packaged dairy and improved infrastructure, such initiatives could:

- Strengthen national dairy supply chains
- Boost integration of cooperative brands like Amul into remote markets
Bottom Line
Milk just got a railway upgrade.
What used to take longer and cost more is now moving faster, cheaper, and at scale—a quiet but powerful shift in India’s dairy logistics game.
