Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh’s Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has intensified its crackdown on adulterated dairy products, destroying 7,686 kg of food material and seizing another 2,131 kg during a week-long enforcement operation across Ghaziabad, Mathura and Saharanpur.
The coordinated drive involved 24 special enforcement teams, which conducted surprise inspections at dairy and dairy-product manufacturing units. According to the FSDA, action was taken against 25 manufacturing establishments, while three additional units were found non-operational.
Nearly 9.8 tonnes of material seized or destroyed
Officials destroyed 7,686 kg of food material on the spot, with an estimated value of nearly ₹10 lakh. Another 2,131 kg of food material and suspected adulterants, valued at around ₹4.75 lakh, was seized.
Overall, the operation covered approximately 9,817 kg of food material and suspected adulterants through seizure and destruction.
Industrial chemicals detected in paneer production
One of the most serious findings was the alleged use of industrial-use chemicals in paneer manufacturing. Enforcement teams also detected the use of palmolin oil and refined vegetable oil during the preparation process.

Such findings have raised renewed concerns over the authenticity and safety of dairy products, particularly paneer, where non-dairy fats and other ingredients can be used to reduce production costs.
72 samples sent for laboratory testing
During the inspections, FSDA teams collected 72 food samples for detailed laboratory analysis. The test results will determine the nature and extent of adulteration and support further regulatory action.
The department also registered six FIRs during the operation. Five cases relate to allegations including the use of industrial chemicals and vegetable oils in paneer production and preparation of food under unhygienic conditions. The sixth FIR concerns alleged obstruction of government officials during enforcement activities.
Of the six FIRs, three were registered in Ghaziabad and two in Mathura, while enforcement action was also undertaken in Saharanpur.
Crackdown signals tougher scrutiny of dairy analogues
The operation comes amid intensified action by Uttar Pradesh authorities against analogue and adulterated dairy products, including paneer, ghee and khoya.
For the dairy industry, the latest enforcement drive highlights the growing importance of raw-material traceability, formulation control, hygienic manufacturing, laboratory testing and regulatory compliance. For consumers, it reinforces concerns about products that may be sold as conventional dairy while containing cheaper non-dairy fats or other unauthorized ingredients.
