NEW DELHI : Shares of Milky Mist Dairy Food Ltd made a strong debut on the stock exchanges on Tuesday, ending nearly 30% above the company’s IPO issue price of ₹140, as investors showed strong interest in India’s organised and value-added dairy sector.

The stock opened at ₹165 on both the BSE and NSE, representing a 17.85% premium to the issue price.
Buying momentum strengthened during the session. Milky Mist shares closed at ₹181.45 on the BSE, up 29.60%, while the stock ended at ₹181.50 on the NSE, a 29.64% premium over the issue price.
At the NSE closing price, the company commanded a market valuation of approximately ₹13,968.81 crore.
IPO attracted strong investor demand
The company’s ₹1,553-crore initial public offering received overwhelming investor response, with the issue being subscribed 56.12 times on the final day of bidding.
The IPO was offered in a price band of ₹133–₹140 per share and comprised a fresh issue of up to ₹1,428 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) of up to ₹125 crore.
The issue is notable for the dairy industry as it represents the largest IPO by an Indian dairy company to date.
Milky Mist now joins listed dairy companies including Parag Milk Foods, Hatsun Agro Product and Dodla Dairy.
Funds to strengthen manufacturing and cold chain
A significant portion of the fresh issue proceeds will be used to repay or prepay borrowings, while the company also plans to expand and modernise its manufacturing facility at Perundurai, Tamil Nadu.
The company intends to strengthen its cold-chain infrastructure, an important requirement for the distribution of value-added dairy products across geographically dispersed markets.

Milky Mist also plans to invest in new production capabilities, including facilities for whey protein concentrate, yoghurt and cream cheese. The expansion programme includes the installation of ice cream freezers and chocolate coolers.
A portion of the IPO proceeds will also be allocated towards general corporate purposes.
Value-added dairy at the centre of the business
Founded in Erode, Tamil Nadu, Milky Mist has built its business around value-added dairy products rather than conventional liquid milk.
Its portfolio includes paneer, cheese, curd, yoghurt, butter, ghee and ice cream, among other products. The company does not operate in the liquid milk segment.
This positioning is significant because India’s dairy industry is increasingly moving beyond bulk liquid milk towards processed and value-added categories, where companies can build differentiated brands and potentially capture higher margins.
The company’s market debut therefore comes at a significant time for India’s dairy sector. The strong listing performance suggests that investors are paying close attention to the growth potential of value-added dairy, processing capacity, branded products and organised cold-chain distribution.
For Milky Mist, the next challenge will be converting the strong investor response into sustained business growth through capacity expansion, product innovation, efficient milk procurement and deeper distribution.
