CHANDIGARH : Milkfed Punjab, which markets dairy products under the Verka brand, has approved revisions in the maximum retail prices (MRPs) of fresh pouch milk, dahi and paneer across Punjab, adjoining markets and Delhi-NCR.
The revised prices were approved following discussions and recommendations made at a committee meeting held on August 25, 2026. The new rates will come into effect from the morning of August 29, 2026.
The move comes ahead of the upcoming festive season and amid increasing competition in the milk and value-added dairy market.
Pouch Milk Prices Increased by ₹6 Per Tray
Milkfed Punjab has approved a ₹6 increase per tray across four bulk six-litre pouch milk variants.

According to the circular, the increase will initially be implemented without any revision in trade margins.
Milkfed has indicated that MRP and trade margins for bulk milk variants may be reviewed subsequently, particularly in view of festival-season demand and competitor activity.
Existing Overprint Provision to Continue
The circular also confirms the continuation of the existing provision allowing overprinting up to the applicable MRP of the one-litre variant on six-litre bulk pouch variants.

The measure is intended to help Verka dairies compete in the HoReCa and institutional segment, where pricing flexibility can be important when competing with other dairy suppliers.
Dahi Prices Revised Across Multiple Pack Sizes
Milkfed Punjab has also approved price increases for several dahi variants.

The circular also states that rates for the remaining products will remain unchanged.
The existing 350 gm Dahi TM Cup at ₹35 will continue until the available packaging material is exhausted. A 400 gm Dahi TM Cup with an approved MRP of ₹40 is also part of the packaging transition.
Paneer Prices Also Revised
Milkfed has approved higher MRPs for several paneer packs, including retail and bulk formats.

The revisions particularly affect bulk paneer, which is widely used by institutional buyers, foodservice operators and other commercial customers.
Contract and Institutional Rates
The circular makes an important distinction between MRPs and existing contractual arrangements.
Where a contractual or tender rate has already been approved by Milkfed and agreed with an institution for a specified period, that rate will remain unchanged for the contracted period.
However, Verka dairies have been instructed to make efforts to obtain revisions to such contracted rates on priority.
For Army institutional supplies, dairies supplying pouch milk may initiate the necessary process with the concerned ASC/depot or military farm authorities for rate revisions, wherever permitted under existing contractual terms.
Special Market Prices and Schemes
The circular also provides that where a special MRP has already been approved for a particular dairy market, the revised increase will be applicable to that variant as well.
Individual proposals, however, will have to be submitted by the concerned Verka dairy for approval of the revised MRP by the competent authority.
Existing permitted overprinting practices for outstation supplies of pouch milk and fresh products will also continue.
Why the Revision Matters
The latest move comes at a strategically important time for Punjab’s dairy market.
The combination of festival-season demand, competition in institutional and HoReCa markets, input-cost pressures and changing dairy consumption patterns is likely to influence pricing decisions across the organised dairy sector.
For Verka, the revisions allow the cooperative to increase realisation across both its core liquid milk business and important value-added categories such as dahi and paneer.
The relatively modest ₹6-per-tray increase in bulk pouch milk, combined with larger increases on selected bulk dahi and paneer products, suggests that Milkfed is taking a category-specific approach to price management rather than applying a uniform increase across its portfolio.
Effective Date
The revised MRPs for the approved products will be applicable from the morning of August 29, 2026, across the specified Punjab, adjoining-area and Delhi-NCR markets, subject to the conditions outlined in the Milkfed Punjab circular.
